Changing from sub-folder to sub-domain

I have a network with only 3 sites and 2 have been domain mapped. I know believe I need to switch this network to subdomain install instead.

I’ve read that I can change the setup in wp-config.php but I want confirmation first that this is doable and will continue to work with Prosites, Domain Mapping, and ultimately Multi Domain.

Has anyone done this? Any thoughts to share about the sub-domain vs. sub-directory installs are welcome and appreciated!

    Hey wecreateyou.

Well to start with I would take a peek through the following:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

Note the difference in htaccess and wp-config.php

I would also take a dump of the DB and run a quick find and replace on it, changing any relevant and hard coded content/links.

You should then be set to go.

One of the most important things here is, backup, backup, backup!

Then if you get it wrong or something happens, you have something to fall back on.

    Take care.

Thanks Tim…. I’ll take the plunge.

For note to others who might view this post…

I’d like to hear from any members who have distinct reasons for choosing one setup over the other.

Sort of a pros and cons for sub-domain vs sub-directory.

Thank NAME, for their help.
