CoursePress: The Easiest Way for an Instructor to Initiate a Discussion, Discussion Iconography, etc

Hi all,

As near as I can tell, the only way for an instructor to initiate or respond to a discussion is to login --> go to WP Admin --> go to Courses --> click on View Units --> click on Discussions --> and lastly, click on "Ask a Question"...

A.) This is terribly convoluted. Is there a better way or is this it?

B.) When the instructor wants to initiate a discussion, they're not necessarily asking a question. Nonetheless, the instructor must click "Ask a Question" as that is the only option. Further, the icon that appears to the left of any response after the initial statement is always an "A", as in 'Answer'. Obviously, not every single response after the initial statement (or question, if it is one) is going to be an answer. Anyway, is the Discussions feature this rigid by design or is there something wrong here? If this is by design, it's not a discussions feature at all, but a Q&A feature.

Hi @AJ! Hope you are doing good today

As an instructor you do not need to go to front end to initiate a discussion. You can do it right from dashboard. Login > CoursePress Pro > Discussion and add new.

Yes basically its Q&A session. Where a student can ask a question and instructor will answer to his question. If you don't want that "A" icon in circle then you can easily remove it using simple CSS rule below.

Add this code in custom CSS box by using this plugin.

As well as a instructor can also as a question so that is why there is ask a question button on discussion panel.

We do really appreciate feedback and suggestions from our valuable members and try our best to add them in plugin/themes. I am moving this thread into "Features and Feedback" forum to be considered in design changes and further discussion by developer of this plugin and theme.

Take care and have a nice weekend

    Cheers, Sajid

    Thanks Sajid ,

There should be a drop-down menu for both instructors as well as students allowing them to choose whether or not they are A.) making a statement, B.) asking a question; or, C.) answering a question.

Yes, CSS can hide anything we want to hide; but to be frank, if wpmudev is going to call the 'Discussions' feature a discussions feature, it should be quite a bit more sensible/granular/flexible.

    Thanks again,
