Custom Info Fields On Blog / Site (not pages/posts)

I'm trying to find a way of adding custom fields to the sites in our network. This is not for individual posts or pages, but for the blog/site itself (on a 'per site' basis).

The custom fields would then be available to call using php within the theme.

Anyone ever come across anything like this?

Thanks.

Martin.

    Hi Martin,

I'm just not aware of a plugin that can do precisely that. In having a think through it, I'd have to say the best thing I could think of would be to custom code a simple plugin that uses a simple admin option page to store options. I think the following resources come in especially handy for that.
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Administration_Menus
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_menu_page

With the options stored in the WordPress database, a theme should be able to access them rather easily. Though perhaps others might have better ideas on this. Anyone?

    Cheers,
    David

Thank you for giving this some thought, David. Unfortunately, the thought of creating a plugin and delving into creating database interaction etc to add the custom fields is way over my knowledge level.

At the moment, in order to use 'custom fields' I have 'per site' variables stored in 'include' files (one per site on the network) and it works fine. I was just looking for a way of letting each site admin control these variables rather than it only being accessible via super admin (using ftp to edit the 'include' files).

In some ways this is good because anyone using the system cannot see 'how' it is done, but on an 'admin' level it would certainly free up some time and give the individual site owners a bit more control of the variables being used.
