Custom Post, CSV Importer and Custom Search

Hi,

I have a CSV database which is currently on another web site and I am considering moving it a wordpress site and I wonder whether it is possble. I could make a Custom Post, use a wordpress csv importer and then a custom search plug in - but would it give me the information ?

The link to the site is here: http://glosters.org.uk/soldiersearch/ - enter a name in the WW1 part like smith and you can see how the information is presented.

I am not concerned as to the presentation of the information but whether it is possible to access all or some of the information which is then clicked to access further details in Wordpress or not.

Any help or advice on this would be much appreciated ! I have a feeling this might not be possible in Wordpress but I could be wrong.

Many thanks

Stephen

    Hi, Stephen!

It's definitely possible, but it's not necessarily going to be a simple job, either. You're on the right track, you'll want to import each row of your CSV in as a custom post type. You'll need to map the data from your CSV to an equivalent existing or newly created field in your Custom Post Type.

Once you've mapped all the CSV fields to a Custom Post type field, you should be able to get all the data when you import. Styling it may take some work down the road, but you mention that's not critical at the moment.

I'd practice first with only a few rows of data at a time, just to make sure everything is mapping properly.

As long as you're using a search tool that supports CPTs, you'll be fine on finding your data.

    Hope this helps a bit!
