Customize "Add comment" form in admin

This is part of a larger plugin I am developing which has various custom post types. For one of the post types, commenting is very important but is only done via the admin area, not the front end. I want to add a checkbox in the "Add comment" form box in the admin which would give the person adding the comment the option to have an email sent to the author of the post with the comment text. I already have the actions set up to have the email sent, but right now it sends on every comment.

I can't find any filters or anything in the WordPress core that would allow me to add this customization.

@sccr410 i have done some searching on google and come up with nothing that would do what you want. You could maybe get some feedback on something like this in the wordpress.org support forums.

In the meantime however i will tag this for one of our amazing lead developers and see if they have an idea. I'm also going to move this to the custompress section where it may get some more feedback from other users. although not directly connected.

    Cheers!

Let me make sure we're talking about the same place. It sounds like you want to add functionality to the post.php Comments meta box in the backend? This is where all post, pages and custom post types are edited on the back end.

There's some complications in that if people Other than the Author of the post are supposed to enter comments there, they must be given capabilities to edit posts which implies they can edit Anything in a post. Is that what you intend? Are they going to be given Editor roles or similar?
