defender and html files

One of my new clients has several html files in his media gallery. Can defender scan those for malware as well? Is there any way to execute bad code form a HTML or is he ok on that front?

    Hey there cornelius_butler,

    I trust you're doing good today!

Defender currently perform three scan types:
WP Core Integrity: Defender checks for any modifications or additions to WP core files.
Plugin & Theme Vulnerabilities: Defender looks for published vulnerabilities in your installed plugins and themes.
Suspicious Code: Defender looks inside all of your files for suspicious and potentially harmful code.

The "Suspicious Code" part should do the trick in your case and scan those HTML files.
If a suspicious file is found, then Defender can try to fix it, or else you can either ignore the notification or delete the actual file. Either way, you should be prompted for each of these actions, there's no automated procedure that you should be worried about.
