Defender is causing high CPU load

On several sites (all hosted on the same cloud) Defender is causing high CPU load. During file scan it becomes unresponsive and the wp-admin content becomes unavailable (that means that while back-end loads, pages in back-end are just blank). Recently, it couldn't even be reinstalled (loading wheel spinning indefinitely) and had to be manually removed via FTP first.

The host found that Defender processes are maxing out 6 core CPU nearly entirely.

    Hello Chris,

I tried to check you site, to see if there is anything unusual, but FTP access you have provided is not working. We tried couple of times but its returning 530 Login authentication failed

Could you please send in the following via our secure contact form https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/#i-have-a-different-question :

    - Mark to my attention, the subject line should contain only: ATTN: Kasia Swiderska
    - Do not include anything else in the subject line, doing so may delay our response due to how email filtering works.
    - Link back to this thread
    - Include FTP log-in details (hostname, username & password)
    - Include any relevant URLs for your site

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you select "I have a different question" for your topic, so it doesn't go back to the forums - this and the subject line ensure that it gets assigned to me.

Please confirm here that you send those credentials

    kind regards,
    Kasia
