Different pages, different categories

What would be the best way for me to set up a website where the pages show posts by category in an archive layout. Is there also a way to use a plugin or maybe create pages where the plugins showing the latest, most popular and comments are based on that pages category, almost creating different "areas" within the site, but still have the users have the ability for their own "feed" page to show ALL post by the authors they are following. Would this be done in multi-site, or another way. Hope that makes sense.

Hi Marzie, that's a nice idea. Lemme describe how this can be done.

where the pages show posts by category in an archive layout

The category archive pages show posts in an archive layout normally. Do you want any specific layout to follow? Can you provide any URL where we can see an example?

where the plugins showing the latest, most popular and comments are based on that pages category

I'm not exactly sure. Can you please describe a little more? Do you want your category archive to show posts in sections, and one section will show latest posts, another section will show most popular posts etc.? Can you please confirm?

Would this be done in multi-site, or another way

I don't think multisite will be necessary. If what I guessed above is right, then it can be done easily with a single WordPress site.

Please let us know in details and confirm if I was right understanding your requirement. We will jump in as soon as you confirm.

    Have a nice day. Cheers!

Hopefully this makes sense. Right now I've just done a mock up and this is not what's happening, but what I want to happen. So first a user would select a category.

The next page would open with the latest post, or other customizable options of post types on the right (or wherever I decide) of the main body.

The main "body" would be all the posts of a users feed consisting of their own posts and other members they have chosen to "follow", "like" or "favorite" however WP treats that behavior.

Hope it makes sense. I love this support by the way, and continuing past my trial with paid membership.

    Hello Marzie,

By default WordPress has already category pages that can be used - by clicking category it will show only posts from that category.
However it doesn't have something like "Follow author" or "like author" that would allow to show only your own posts and authors you follow and also divide them by category.
I found those plugins that allows you to add authors as favorite https://wordpress.org/plugins/favorite-authors/ or follow authors https://pl.wordpress.org/plugins/wp-subscribe-author/ - but they don't create feed.

Other way closer to displaying feeds of members would be using BuddyPress and this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/ so members can follow each other.
However - this solution doesn't have categories of posts (posts are members activity).

Both solution will require some amount of custom coding to get exactly what you want to achieve. If you are not comfortable with putting this all together I can suggest hiring a developer that will implement that for you ( you can find one here https://premium.wpmudev.org/wordpress-development/)
