Displaying Posts via RSS Feeds or other means

Greetings WPMUdev!

I have a plugin that allows posts to be displayed via an RSS Feed URL. I was wondering,

Where and how do I attain an RSS feed URL from a site or blog (wordpress, squarespace, etc. etc.)

If there is no indication (RSS icon) or other reference on the site, is there still a way to grab the feed link? And if not, is there an easy implementation that I could forward to the sites owner for their reference?

Much Love,
Ciro Bey

    Hey Ciro Bey,

Hope you are doing good today.

WordPress has feeds inbuilt by default, and you can find all the feeds regarding this, by going to your WordPress site as shown below:

    http://example.com/feed/
    http://example.com/feed/rss/
    http://example.com/feed/rss2/
    http://example.com/feed/rdf/
    http://example.com/feed/atom/

So for Wordpress.org, it would be wordpress.org/news/feed etc

For more information, check this link:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Feeds

If it's a non-WordPress website, there isn't any easy way, if the website doesn't provide a RSS icon, you'll have to check the page source, and check for the attribute application/rss+xml, the associated link related to this attribute should be the RSS, or feed of a website. Please check this link for more info:

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you still need any further assistance. Have a nice weekend.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Ciro Bey,

Sorry to hear the inconvenience you are having. I tried accessing your feed but it seems like your server is giving the XML file to download. As a quick workaround, can you please try installing and activating this plugin? https://wordpress.org/plugins/fix-my-feed-rss-repair/ This might resolve the issue.

If it doesn't solve your issue, can you please talk to your host regarding why XML file is not rendered on your server and given to users for download? Ask them to go to "http://www.tamanasprings.com/feed/" this link and they will understand.

Just to make sure no other plugin is causing this, can you please do a plugin conflict test? To know more about plugin conflict test, you can check this guide: http://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/using-wpmu-dev/getting-support/

Please let us know what your host say about this and the result of your plugin conflict test. If there is anything we can do from our end, we will be glad to do that.

    Have a nice day. Cheers!

    Hi Ciro Bey,

I have the site in maintenance mode via a plugin, would that have anything to do with it?

It totally depends on how your maintenance mode plugin was coded. To become sure if your maintenance plugin is creating the issue or not, can you please deactivate that plugin for a minute and check your feed page. If feed shows properly after disabling that maintenance mode plugin, then that plugin is the reason behind the issue. If you can't see your feed even after disabling your maintenance mode plugin, then something else is causing this.

Please let us know the result of your plugin conflict test and how did that feed repairing plugin do. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and resolving this issue as soon as possible.

    Have a nice day. Cheers!

Hey there Rupok What exactly is this page suppose to look like? The plugin conflict test changed nothing there.

Also the support from the host ended with no success and they recommended I contact the web builder.

This is the error I am receiving when I enter in tamanasprings.com/feed/ into the RSS field for the plugin.

Sorry, an error occured while retrieving RSS content:
This XML document is invalid, likely due to invalid characters. XML error: XML_ERR_NAME_REQUIRED at line 35, column 30

When your website is in maintenance mode, we were getting a downloadable file, instead of XML feed as you have shown above. RSS is basically a structured XML, so your feed is correct as shown in your above screenshot, and it should work.

Sorry, an error occured while retrieving RSS content:
This XML document is invalid, likely due to invalid characters. XML error: XML_ERR_NAME_REQUIRED at line 35, column 30

I suppose this is due to the fact that your website is in maintenance mode. Could you please run your RSS plugin, with maintenance mode disabled and check whether it works fine. I wasn't able to find which plugin where you did try to configure this, so I wasn't able to test this out.

If you still have issues, please let us know on which plugin you are configuring this, so that we could give a closer look, Have a nice day.

Hey there Nithin Turning off maintenance mode while using tamanasprings.com/feed/ seems to work now. BTW the plugin I'm using is 'The Grid' (the grid titled "TLC Sound" using RSS within the Source options.

The posts are displayed although no images are showing up. Do you have any idea to why that is? When I linked a previous RSS feed images showed but were pixelated. Is there some limitations to what RSS feeds can grab?

Reading Feed RSS urls might not always works, and it depends upon what you are trying to import from the feeds, and limitations depeds upon each plugin. The featured images should have worked, since it's a premimu plugin, I don't know how exactly the plugin works, so I'm sure whether the issue is related to your premium plugin, or not.

Would recommend you to check whether performing a plugin conflict test helps, if not you'll have to get in touch with your plugin support, and check what we are missing here.

Have you tried Autoblog plugin, maybe it might fit your needs:
