Do I need a dedicated IP address if I am using SUB-DIRECTORIES with my multisite setup?

(Sorry, I haven't installed the Domain Mapping Plugin yet)

I have a multisite set up on Hostgator. My users are currently issued a sub-directory of my site.

Do I still need a dedicated IP address for this? OR is that only required for sub-domain setups?

Hostgator requires an SSL to be purchased as well.

If so, What are the setup steps for this.

Thank you for your help.

    Greetings modcity,

Thank you for the great questions.

Do I still need a dedicated IP address for this?

    No.

OR is that only required for sub-domain setups?

Yes, so that the end users with TLD's can point an "A" record to the dedicated IP.

Hostgator requires an SSL to be purchased as well.

lol - that is a shame.

If so, What are the setup steps for this.

For purchasing an SSL certificate or?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

    Greetings modcity,

Thank you for the additional question and you are partially right ... So if I install the Domain Mapping Plugin, I will NOT need a dedicated IP address since I have sub-directory settings and you will not be using "A" records for DNS settings.

The domains will either need to use CNames to resolve the domain or park the domains within your hosting account and the nameservers of the domains sent to your hosting account.

Thank you for being a WPMU DEV Community Member and have a GREAT upcoming weekend!

    Cheers, Joe
