Domain Mapping not working

The subdomain I am trying to map to is http://allegrini.yachtblogs.com/. If you visit it right now, it works fine. The domain I am trying to map from is http://allegrini.co.uk/. I temporarily removed http://allegrini.co.uk/ from the "Custom Domain" in the tools > Domain Mapping plugin field because I can't get anything to work.

1. When I add http://allegrini.co.uk/ to the custom domain field, the plugin appears to work properly because when I visit http://allegrini.yachtblogs.com/ I am forwarded to http://allegrini.co.uk/. However, for some reason nothing exists at http://allegrini.co.uk/. I added the A record as directed by the plugin usage to the proper static IP address and I've confirmed that this is the correct address. I edited the A record about 24 hours ago.

Any thoughts on why http://allegrini.co.uk/ isn't coming up with my site?

Thank you.

    Hello Jacob,

As per the plugin, your static IP needs to be something which takes you to your blog.

108.167.176.150 should take me to your blog in order for the mapping to work properly, but it currently does not.

Lemme discuss it more with @aecnu who specializes in server administration and see if he can provide me a path forward to get a solution for you.

Its the same situation for me, my static IP also does not take me anywhere.

Stay tuned while I seek some expert advice

    Cheers

Greetings Jacob and Ian (I mean @PC) :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason why @Jacob is not working at the moment seems to be DNS related and does not go anywhere nor does it successfully trace route as shown here:

    http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=express&host=allegrini.co.uk

Also take note that the nameserver DNS entries do not contain any "A" records at all.

This is indeed the main problem or at least at this point.

In PC's case, everything works and traces as it should:

    http://network-tools.com/default.asp?prog=express&host=affordablehost.co

And Domain Mapping should work just fine though the IP does not resolve in a reverse because his host does not allow hacking to be done via IP and just putting in the IP brings one to an unhackable page :stuck_out_tongue:

In addition, in PC's case he has more then one domain resolving to his IP and yes it should all still work just fine because his host is the bomb :stuck_out_tongue:

So at this point for Jacob, the problem resides in the nameservers at:

    ns0.gradwell.com [193.111.200.7]
    ns1.gradwell.net [193.84.87.10]
    ns2.gradwell.net [216.218.244.58]

Not having an "A" record at all as clearly indicted below:

    Answer records
    allegrini.co.uk SOA
    server: ns0.gradwell.com
    email: hostmaster@gradwell.com
    serial: 2012081619
    refresh: 86400
    retry: 3600
    expire: 604800
    minimum ttl: 300
    300s
    allegrini.co.uk NS ns1.gradwell.net.allegrini.co.uk 86400s
    allegrini.co.uk NS ns2.gradwell.net.allegrini.co.uk 86400s
    allegrini.co.uk NS ns0.gradwell.com.allegrini.co.uk 86400s

Versus PC's records which clearly show the "A" records:

    Answer records
    affordablehost.co TXT v=spf1 +a +mx +ip4:216.244.77.178 ?all 14400s
    affordablehost.co MX
    preference: 0
    exchange: affordablehost.co
    14400s
    affordablehost.co SOA
    server: ns3.fab-host.com
    email: aecnucom@gmail.com
    serial: 2012072002
    refresh: 86400
    retry: 7200
    expire: 3600000
    minimum ttl: 86400
    86400s
    affordablehost.co NS pc1.affordablehost.co 86400s
    affordablehost.co NS pc2.affordablehost.co 86400s
    affordablehost.co A 216.244.77.186 14400s

    Authority records

    Additional records
    affordablehost.co A 216.244.77.186 14400s
    pc1.affordablehost.co A 216.244.77.178 14400s
    pc2.affordablehost.co A 216.244.77.179 14400s

So for Jacob, until the DNS is fixed up at his nameservers, his domain will not resolve.

    Keep me posted.

    Cheers, Joe

Yes, my host is indeed a bomb

    Greetings Jacob,

Thank you for your additional input and sorry to hear that you are still having issues with this.

OK - we were able to update the settings. Allegrini.co.uk is now forwarding to 108.167.176.150

I confirm that the domain is indeed resolving to Host Gator IP 108.167.176.150

However at this very moment propagation has not taken place globally:
    http://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/Allegrini.co.uk

A few more hours are needed for the missing areas.

In the meantime, what is the sub site destination URL?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

    Hey Jacob,

This is what I did as suggested by Joe ( Hey Joe, please correct me if I missed a step)

1: Set the name servers of the Domain to be mapped to those of my hosting (Where my blog is hosted)
2: Park the domain where my blog is hosted
3: Set the domain inside Domain mapping and select (Domain entered by user)

and it worked. It was the A record which had to be removed right ?

    Cheers

    Greetings Everyone,

@PC yes you are correct that this is what we did. When we removed the "A" record from the registrar and let the server handle the DNS by virtue of setting the name servers to the server and you parked the domain, during parking the "A" record is indeed created and the resolving of the domains DNS work right there server side.

That is why it worked so well PC in our situation and our server configuration.

@Jacob if you remove the mapped domain allegrini.co.uk what happens when you visit allegrini.yachtblogs.com? Right now it shows the same thing but what happens when you remove the domain mapping of the allegrini.co.uk domain?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

Thanks for everyone's help here. With your help, I managed to get it worked out.

As you all indicated, I needed to park the domain on my end so that my host knew what to do with it. Once that happened, it took all of 2 minutes for the site to start working.
