Domain Mapping plugin by WPMUDEV: How to have top level domains point to sites on WP multisite?

OBJECTIVE

Have multiple to level domains point to sites on a WP multisite such that the user sees the top level domain and not a multisite sub domain

EXAMPLE:

http://www.Mysite.tv points to http://www.MySite.com/tv but the browser address bar shows http://www.MySite.tv

http://www.MySite.tv/documentaries shows content at http://www.MySite.com/tv/documentaries but the browser address bar shows http://www.MySite.tv/documentaries

Thanks in advance for a full explanation and step by step method to accomplish this objective

    Hello BGF,

I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

I'm not quite sure if I'm following you here. It seems that you're using a sub-folder Multisite install where "MySites.com/tv" is a sub-site of your network and "MySites.com/tv/documentaries" is some page of that sub-site. Is that right?

In order to show "MySites.com/tv" under "MySite.tv" domain you'd need to follow these steps:

    1. Assuming that main site of your network is under "MySites.com" domain, make sure that "MySite.tv" domain also loads this site when typed into browser's address bar.

    - if you're using a dedicated IP, set a "root folder" for this IP to point to the root folder of your MultiSite network installation (you may need to ask your hosting tech support for help here); then configure DNS for "MySite.tv" domain to point to this IP.

    - if you're not using a dedicated IP, configure DNS for "MySite.tv" by setting CNAME record to point to "MySites.com".

    2) Install our Domain Mapping plugin

    3) In the dashboard of "MySites.com/tv" site go to "Tools" -> "Domain Mapping" page and you'll be given an option to map your own domain there simply by putting its name in a text field.

Once this is done, "MySites.com/tv/documentaries" should also be accessible via "MySite.tv/documentaries" and this address should be visible in browser's bar.

In case you'd need further assistance on this, I'll be glad to help!

    Best regards,
    Adam
