Domain mapping random different errors on two sites

I have domain mapping installed and has been working very well until yesterday. I have unmapped some sites and now notice that one of the sites (weddingsupplierkent) has a white screen on the front end. Address bar shows "http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/wp-admin/my-sites.php" If I add mapping back to this site it works. On another site "surreyweddingsupplier" I get a 500 error when trying to access the dashboard from the original domain but the new domain works ok. Address bar shows "http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/surreyweddingsupplier/wp-admin/" This site is mapped and the mapping has been working correctly. Server error log says index file not found.
I have updated Wordpress to latest yesterday and wonder if this might be part of the problem. What I don't understand why I have two random problems when all the other sites are working fine.
Thanks for your help.
Mike.

    Hey there mike_dutton,

    hope you're doing good and thanks for reaching us! :slight_smile:

    Could you please access your server through FTP, edit the wp-config.php file, find a line like
    define('WP_DEBUG', false);
    and replace it with the following (if the above line doesn’t exist, simply insert next snippet just above the /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ comment)

    // Enable WP_DEBUG mode
    define('WP_DEBUG', true);
    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);
    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);
    @ini_set('display_errors', 0);

    Then go ahead and try to replicate both errors, the white screen of http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/weddingsupplierkent/ and the error 500 of http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/surreyweddingsupplier/wp-admin/.
    Prior to that, please clear and deactivate all caches involving to your setup.
    By doing so, a /wp-content/debug.log file should be created.
    Simply download it, rename it to debug.txt and attach it here in your next reply.

    I have updated Wordpress to latest yesterday and wonder if this might be part of the problem.

    You can always override all WP files via FTP to be sure that you don't confront any core issues.
    Just download WordPress here https://wordpress.org/download/, uncompress the downloaded file and upload all contents to your server apart from the /wp-content/ folder.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

    Hi Dimitris,
    Thanks for your help.
    This is the log;
    [04-Feb-2017 13:15:27 UTC] PHP Notice: has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0.0! Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead. in /home/essexwed/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4020

    I disabled all plugins and the problem remained. What I don't understand is that it only affects 2 sites out of 45.

    Hello Mike!

    The "Surrey Wedding Supplier" site does load for me fine. I tried to access it using an original URL (sub-folder) and I was redirected to "surreyweddingsuplier.co.uk" domain as expected. Did you make any changes to solve this?

    AS for the "Kent" page. I can see that it's an empty page and it looks at first sight like it was loading a "clean" index.html/index.php page that's not a part of the theme. If you access any of its pages directly, they load fine (try "About" page for example).

    That suggests that there's something interfering with the theme. Could you try switching that particular site to one of a standard WP themes (such as e.g. Twenty Sixteen or Twenty Seventeen) and see if that also loads the "blank" page on homepage or not?

    Let me know please.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

    I have now replaced the Wordpress core files manually, deactivated all plugins and dropped back to the Twenty Sixteen theme and the problems are still there. Also another site that has been unmapped is now not working- merseysideweddingsupplier. I also notice that the user list in Network admin only shows the first user while all the sub sites show all 4. The "Surreyweddingsupplier" the problem is admin access not the front end. I also notice that if I try to redirect one of the domains that has been previously mapped it redirects only to the root.
    All this started following unmapping some domains.

    Thanks for your help.
    Mike.

    Hello mike_dutton,

    hope you're doing good today! :slight_smile:

    I have now replaced the Wordpress core files manually, deactivated all plugins and dropped back to the Twenty Sixteen theme and the problems are still there.

    It seems that both subsites
    http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/weddingsupplierkent/
    http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/surreyweddingsupplier/
    are pointing into a subfolder of your WP installation folder.

    Have you added those sites in your cPanel account? Please advise!
    If so, they should be pointing to the same directory (DocumentRoot) as the main WP multisite installation. So if main domain is pointing to /public_html/ folder, all subsites added should point to this folder also.

    Also another site that has been unmapped is now not working- merseysideweddingsupplier.

    I can access both
    http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/merseysideweddingsupplier/wp-admin/ &
    http://theweddinggateway.co.uk/merseysideweddingsupplier/
    what's the issue here? Please advise!

    I also notice that the user list in Network admin only shows the first user while all the sub sites show all 4.

    Could you please this URL with me? I can 4 users in all these 3 subsites mentioned until now in both Sites listing and in site users screen like /wp-admin/network/site-users.php?id=27

    The "Surreyweddingsupplier" the problem is admin access not the front end.

    WP_DEBUG should record some errors considering that? Could you please share the debug log file as stated in my initial reply here in this thread just in case you missed something in there?

    I also notice that if I try to redirect one of the domains that has been previously mapped it redirects only to the root.

    Could you please elaborate a bit more on this?
    What's the redirection you're talking about? If mapped domain is erased, the subsite should be accessible again, like it should be before mapping any domain name.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris
