Double opt-in disabled with custom templates

Just upgraded from SBE 3.0.1 to 3.5.2 and double opt-in no longer works. It's bypassed completely and when a user types in their email address, it simply says they're subscribed and no longer sends a confirmation email.

This definitely worked on 3.0.1.

    I've visited your site but apart form checking main Subscribe by Email settings I wasn't able to dig deeper. I must say I got a bit lost there as your site(s) seem pretty much customized. I can see that the "Subscribe by Email" form is e.g. in a footer of what seems to be a main site but I'd like to know how did you placed it there as I can't see any access to "widgets" or theme editor.

    Could you please elaborate a bit on this? I'd like to check and test it for myself.
