error folder not writeable

Hello Support,

I had an error from a plugin: folder is not writeable. Is this a file permissions error?

Thanks

Thanks for your answer. My host is saying that they are on a Windows server, and that they do not allow me to change the permissions. Is there a way around this?

Also, if I put the ftp info in the wp-config file, would this override the permissions issue?

    Hey again.

Also, if I put the ftp info in the wp-config file, would this override the permissions issue?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do when getting this error?

I presume by the FTP question it’s install and update plugins?

It’s worth a shot. I don’t use Windows machines myself.

Is there a way around this?

Swap to something which isn’t Windows, would that not be an option?

    Take care.

Thanks for your message. Sorry, the host only uses Windows – no choice there.

There are tons of hosts out there who all support basic WordPress features. WordPress is the most popular blog/cms based system and it’s installed millions of times around the world.

If they can’t support WordPress and the base features then I’d be looking for a new host that can.

Sorry but not sure what else to suggest, they must be specialists in their systems so it’s down to them.

    Take care.

I totally agree with Tim on this.

Windows hosting is generally far more difficult to work with for the user. If you can’t change your folder permissions you’re stuck – WordPress has to be able to write data to certain folders.

I can make recommendations for good, cost effective hosting providers if you like.
