[Events +] Best usage Events+ with members

We want to link our members (users) to an event.

Using Event RSVP's we could add them by entering their email addresses. But it would be much easier to select a member of the website.

And after that we would like to send out emails 1 week before the event reminding them they have a task to do or a training which they have to follow.

What is, in your opinion the best way to achieve this?
