Files/folders owner and group problem

Hi – I had problem uploading images and I run the following command and now I get “403 Forbidden” error:

chown -R user1:user1 /home/user1/public_html

Your urgent response is highly appreciated.

Are you running this on a local machine? Or do you have a server? This is a permissions error. You may have applied to permissions incorrectly. Where were you instructed to run that command? Perhaps we can trace back your steps and find out how to resolve this.

Thanks for your response. This is fixed by my host. Incase anyone else in the future face this problem and by mistake change the owner/group for all files/folders, here is how to reverse it back and fix it:

Run the following commend in ssh:

    sh ./ -a user1

    “user1” is the account user.

    Hello Jamshid,

Good to see they were able to get this taken care of. It looks like they provided a script that fixes this for you. So, it’s most likely that this command wouldn’t work elsewhere as it depends on the file to be present. It’s probably a custom mix of commands specific to your server. But that’s great for you! Usually a sign of good support from a web host!

    Take care!

    Best regards, Alexander Rohmann
