Filter Tickets By Status - Front end

Hi

Could you tell me how I could add a filter on the FRONT END to filter the tickets in a particular category by status so only show New or Closed for example?

If its not possible can I pass anything the URL where I could add menu items or buttons to achieve exactly the same thing for instance?

Could I add anything to the end of this such as &status=1 that would work?
