Force Menu to open new Tab or Browser when URL has a search term

Hello All,

How to:
Force Menu to open new Tab or Browser when URL has a search term

http://www.newmexicovideo.com/calendar/?s=business This works fine, does the job when I make a custom Menu link...

http://www.newmexicovideo.com/calendar/?s=business target=newtab this adds to the search

http://www.newmexicovideo.com/calendar/?s=business target="_blank" so does this...

How do I go about keeping someone on my site -- and still give them the search parameter?

Thanks in Advance!!

    Hi Joe,

    target="_blank"
    target="newtab"
    target=newtab

    None work after you have used a search parameter... (I can't make it)

    Well, MAYBE it doesn't work... let me elaborate... sorry, should have the first go around.

    When I add the "extra stuff" after the search parameter -- it doesn't act on the command, it incorporates the command into what is being searched.

    This causes two things to happen:
    1st -- it screws up the search.
    2nd -- it keeps the screwed up search on the same page, replacing the site ;-(

    The issue is how to launch the new tab or browser, when you have a search parameter in the URL line of a Custom Menu Item.

    OK, maybe I explained it better this time -- sorry for the confusion...
    How the heck can I do this?
    Thanks!!!

    Thanks Joe!

    Hi Arnold... nice to virtual meet you...

    Well, we're getting warm!

    Thanks for letting me know and sharing that solution, I will be able to use it in the future for something else that has been nagging me -- thanks!

    I still need a different way to -- possibly -- do this:

    1) I can't use an User required input on this as this link I'm trying to add to the menu is launching a dedicated page, with the search parameter "business" or "events" or "concerts" and the custom menu item, when clicked, simply has to bring up what the menu button says it will without further input.

    2) Currently, it does it just fine -- but it replaces the page I'm on, rather than getting another tab or browser window launched -- can't have the replace... has to be a new tab/browser.

    3) The question I have of you now... is -- since I cannot add the request to the end of the command line, ie:
    http://www.newmexicovideo.com/calendar/?s=business target="_blank"
    Can I somehow accomplish this by putting the request in the front of the command line, ie:
    target="_blank" http://www.newmexicovideo.com/calendar/?s=business

    Which I have tried -- and naturally it doesn't work...

    So the final part -- because I believe ya Arnold... but I still hope there is a way.

    Is there some kind of multi-step process, some kind of way I can have the menu command go to a script or some other way... that gets a new tab open and then launches my command for that tab?

    If that is never going to work, is there some kind of way... to force a Refresh when a page is navigated to?

    This thought being -- having the page ALREADY established with the search parameter... and when someone navigates to it... it simply automatically does a refresh to pull up and update what that page is dedicated to pulling up... the calendar with all business entries, or events, or...

    Any additional creative thoughts are always appreciated!
