getting started with plugins

Hi, I'm new to this and just signed up for the premium membership. I just downloaded the PPV plugin and am trying to figure out how to get that onto my site.

The easiest way to install premium plugins and themes from WPMUdev is to first download and install the Dashboard plugin: https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wpmu-dev-dashboard/

Once that's done, it's a simple click to get stuff installed and activated on your site.

But first, you need to know how to upload your first plugin

When you first installed WordPress on your site, did you use a package installer from your hosting company, or did you download WordPress, then upload and install it yourself via FTP?

    Hi again Nick,

OK, for any free plugin or theme, you can simply go to "Themes" > "Install New" or "Plugins" > "Install new" your WordPress admin area. Those areas will search the 1000s of free plugins and themes in the WordPress plugin and theme repository. Once you've found what you're looking for, you can install it with a simple click.
    Plugins: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/
    Themes: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

However, just about any premium plugin or theme that you acquire will need to be manually uploaded before you can install it. There are 2 ways you can install a theme or plugin on your site (use whichever method you're most comfortable with):

    1. Upload via FTP. You can get the FTP credentials from your hosting company. If you're using cPanel on your hosting account, the setup process is actually quite simple. Scroll to the "File" section and set things up there. Your hosting company can provide all the help you need for that. You will also need to download and install an FTP client on your computer which will enable you to upload all your stuff to your site. My all-time favorite is Filezilla: http://filezilla-project.org/

    2. Use the file manager section in cPanel. Again, scroll to the "Files" section and click on "File Manager". There, you will be prompted to select the directory you wish to explore. Once in the directory, you can upload files and folders by clicking on the very user-friendly icons at the top.

To make your life a lot easier, remember to first install the WPMU Dashboard plugin. Once that's done, you can install and activate any premium theme or plugin from this site with a single click. Note that use of the WPMU Dashboard requires an active membership (if your membership expires, or you cancel it, the dashboard will no longer be available, but you can continue using the plugins and themes for as long as you like).

Hope this helps! And thanks for being a member
