Google Page Speed Decreased

I'm getting a decreased score on Google Speed Test, activated Hummingbird and Smush CDN, but the low score persists, I don't understand first I had a rank of more than 80 % now 8%, can you help me?

Thanks in advance

    Hi Michael,

There are couple of things that you can try further improving in Hummingbird by going to Asset Optimization and in there try enabling as many options as possible.
This feature can be a bit time consuming to configure because not all files will respond well to optimization so you would need to enable as many options as possible for as many files without losing any site functionality.
There's, unfortunately, no automated way to get the best results here because each site is different based on the theme and plugins that are used, so you will need to do this manually until you get the best combination on your site.

However, the biggest issue on your site seems to be the page size itself.
When I test your site with GTMetrix it takes over 20 seconds until it's fully loaded and the page size is almost 26MB which is quite large, especially if you loading it on mobile devices.
High content load like this will, of course, slow down the load time and affect the results shown.
There is a lot of content being loaded from external sources, like videos, map, etc. and you can't really affect these as they are not pulled from your own server.

So reducing the content of your page, if possible, should make the biggest impact on the score.

    Best regards,
    Predrag

Hello Predrag, Thank you very much for the Replay!

In the past everything was really fit and working with a good ranking I have not changed anything much at the website I do not understand why the ranking is now so extremely bad.
i test this on the https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/

i saw that there are many Remove resources blocking the rendering of WPMU

    Hi Michael,

Removing render blocking resources listed will certainly make some impact on both the speed and the score itself, this is done with the Asset Optimization in Hummingbird as I mentioned in my previous reply.

So, there will be some impact when Asset Optimization is configured but I'm afraid that it won't change it as much as you would want.

You are aware of the change in Google Page speed page, but the changes they did are not just of the visual nature of results, the actual result "calculator", sort to say, is now different as well.
Previously, the final score didn't depend much on the speed itself and it was more focused on getting the scanned things correct, have optimized images, script optimization, and so on, but the actual time of the load didn't affect the final score much.
With this new change, your site speed is a big part of the final score, so your page being over 25MB and taking over 20 seconds to load will affect that score by a lot.

    Best regards,
    Predrag

    Hi Michael

The GTMetrix score is quite fine indeed. The PageSpeed result is also quite good currently but for desktop only. The one that you're referring to is most likely the one for mobile - that one is still quite low and the speed detected is much lower than for desktop.

There's quite a big difference and such an inconsistency usually would be something mostly related to the theme or theme plus "content structure" (so to say). What I mean is that in cases like this usually theme is loading some scripts that might not be necessary for mobile devices and that it's CSS could be optimized more. By "content structure" I mostly mean what kind of information are "above the fold" - so for example if a user must scroll a lot down to get to the actual post content and pass over the images that are just "theme design", that can impact that too.

Theme should also take care of serving "physically smaller" images for smaller screens - that doesn't mean that it would resize them via CSS but just pick up smaller versions.

This might also be all affected in some way by some plugins if you do use plugins that are modifying layouts/design and content but it's rarely that big impact.

That said, what could be done here to improve that without any serious modifications on the "development level"?

I checked the site configuration and I'd start with two "tweaks" that are not necessarily directly related to what I wrote above but could address that "mobile score" indirectly:

    1. I noticed that in Hummingbird's "Asset Optimization" section you got all the CSS resources pretty well optimized while the JS part is actually not configured at all - it's just "as it is". You might want to give it some time and try to optimize that as well - try to combine, move to footer and "force load after page is loaded" as many scripts form there as possible.

    2. Consider setting up a CDN for your site. Even a free plan of CloudFlare should suffice.

To go further after that, I think it would either require some custom development to create some more "mobile friendly" child theme out of your current theme or try some plugin that actually serves a different, mobile specific theme for the mobile devices such as for example WPTouch or similar.

    Best regards,
    Adam
