gzip the website and making site faster

Hello

I just read the article from WPMU.org on making your site faster https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/tips-for-dirty-bloggers-pt-2-is-clean-code-that-important/

I did the Google speed test and it said I should try Compressing the following resources with gzip which could reduce their transfer size by 204.5KiB (73% reduction).

Is there a way to do this?

Compressing http://v,,,,s.com/…/jquery-1.6.4.min.js?… could save 58.2KiB (64% reduction).

Compressing http://v,,,s.com/…/studio-buddypress.css?… could save 44KiB (85% reduction).
