Hide the Front End Toolbar

Ok I’ve switched over to Social Theme.

I don’t have a need for anyone to see the front end toolbar at the top of the page right now so I’d like to hide it from everyone except superadmin.

I followed a few previous threads and added the http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/global-admin-bar-hide-or-remove/faq/

doesn’t seem to work.

I’m also using Ultimate Branding, Ultimate facebook, membership

I’m giving up looking and asking for help at this point.

I would also love some clarification on the other nav that is showing up on the social theme. upper right where I think ads might go. It looks like buddypress core components

Can I control who sees that someplace. I really don’t need to let people have that menu if they have the tabs the theme provides.

Ok a tab bit more clarification. I just realized they aren’t linking to exactly the same page. Activity on the tabs goes to a page with only two columns and the BP nav goes to one that has three and is specific to the user.

I think I can recreate the menu tabs I want directing to the BP pages. But then how would I hide the one that is there currently.

I also have a red Error showing up on my pages.

And now I’ve locked myself out of viewing content somehow. Geesh.

To completely remove the toolbar, try this:

To remove the nav section from the upper right of the theme, you would need to add some custom CSS. I recommend using the child-theme for that, otherwise you will lose your customizations when you update the theme.

On your computer, open bp-social/themes and you will see another folder called bp-social-child. In that folder, you’ll want to change the name of the child-style-sample file inside _inc/css/ to child-style. Then add the following to child-style, after everything else:

div#optionsbar {

display:none;

}
```
Save the file, then upload the entire bp-social-child folder to your wp-content/themes folder. You’ll then see the BP-Social Child theme available under “Appearance” > “Themes” in your wp-admin. Activate that theme and the offending nav will no longer be visible.

Now you can continue customizing stuff in the child-theme, and your edits will be preserved when you update BP Social.

Ok I think I’m cooking with gas now. I didn’t rename it the way you told me too. I renamed it but had my own name on it. Which apparently broke something. Re-read your directions for the 45th time and figured out my mistake.

Ok so my next step is to do something like this.

My question would be when they are talking about putting that code in the header.

I’m now working with my buddypress social-child theme right so that would be where I put this? I don’t see a header for the child theme so I’ll go with the assumption that I’d actually be putting this code in the header of the social theme. Doesn’t that mean I’d screw up my future updates?

or do you somehow tell it to put this in the header from the child theme.

I don’t see a header for the child theme so I’ll go with the assumption that I’d actually be putting this code in the header of the social theme.

Nope. Here again, you simply copy the file from the parent-theme to the child-theme, preserving the folder structure. Files/templates that are in the root folder of parent can be copied into the root of the child. So bp-social/header.php gets copied and becomes bp-social-child/header.php.

I’ve decide this is above my paygrade. I’m going to have to hire that out later. Or at the very least practice some more with this child theme thing.

Pushing my project forward. I think I’ll try to mimic what you guy have here in the admin dashboard.

I’m already a month behind. So I’m going to try a work around. Don’t worry I’ll be back with many more questions.
