How can I compress my site manually?

Hi', i just became a premium wpmudev member and I tok down my own website while trying to manually edit the htaccess file in order to do the compression.

Due to an unknown (for me) reason, this is what i got: gzip is not working properly:
- Your server may not have the "deflate" module enabled (mod_deflate for Apache, ngx_http_gzip_module for NGINX)
- Another plugin may be interfering with the configuration

Could you link me to a "simple" way to install the deflate module in my Apache server?
I'm not really an expert in web developing or code writing :slight_frown:

    Hello Jorge,

I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

The message you're getting means that the module required to enable compression is either not installed at all or not working properly. It's a "server-level" issue so unless you're an admin of your own server you will want to get in touch with your hosting provider and ask them to check "mod_deflate" or "ngx_http_gzip_module" (depending on whether the server runs on Apache or nginx) settings. Hopefully they should be able to help.

In case you're an administrator of your own server (a VPS, a dedicated server or your own server machine), let me know please what web server are you using (Apache or nginx) and on what system (including version).

    Best regards,
    Adam
