How can I prevent the WordPress text editor from wrapping images with p tags?

Well my question is in the title, I want to create a layout where images can be larger than the text which is in <p> elements. So I created a css rule to limit the width of <p> elements, but since WordPress surround images with <p> tags, I can’t get the images to take the available space, they also have the width constraint from the css rule on <p> tags.

Is there a way to remove those in a simple fashion. I found a plugin that does the job: Raw HTML, but it’s a bit overkill for what I want to do.

Thanks for your help.
