How does the new protected content plugin compare

How does the new protected content plugin compare to the older Membership plugin? What are the similarities and differences?

Thanks
Shireen

    Hey Shireen,

Hope you're doing well today and thanks for your question!

At first glance it may just look like the same plugin with an overhauled user interface; however, there are a lot of improvements in the overall coding of the plugin that will enable us to really build upon it and make it even more awesome!

Here are a few key differences between it and Membership that you may be interested in:

*The admin bar, you may notice a new item called "Test memberships" for the first time ever, you can actually test a dripped content subscription, by simulating the days.

*Multiple Memberships per user (using an add-on within the plugin).

*Mailchimp integration (Aweber and others coming soon!)

*Read and write access to comments, or just read with no write! Yes fine tune the comments to your liking.

*Unique CSS classes in the body tag for each membership level. Meaning you can customize content on the entire page using CSS per membership level, a simple, yet very handy feature

Also, we do have an importer that is in development to import users currently using Membership, over to Protected Content.

Let me know if you have any further questions Shireen!

    All the best,
    Tyler

    Hey Shireen,

Hope you're doing well today and thanks for your reply!

The Membership 4.0 release actually turned into Protected Content. So, far as Membership 4.0 goes, you're looking at it

With that said, yes it is the bigger better version of Membership. We would of loved to release it as an update to Membership to streamline the process for everyone; however, with all the changes we made it just wasn't possible without causing a ton of broken sites :slight_frown:

The points I listed above are exclusive to Protected Content, and it also has Stripe gateway too which was highly requested for Membership.

It no longer has the ping feature, as not many people used it and instead we just integrated Mailchimp directly into the plugin, which is what almost anyone who used the ping feature used it for anyway - as noted above we'll be adding in more integrations over time as well.

I was waiting for the release of Membership 4.0 which was expected to have some improvements but does it make sense to now move to protected content instead?

Yes  would make complete sense.

Hope this helps and let us know if you have any further questions.

    All the best,
    Tyler
