How to restore the website completely from scratch?

Hi there,

We are just considering our backup and restore options in the worst case scenario of our wordpress server and installation going down. My question is what would be the process to restore our site if this did happen? Would it be a case of uploading our files again to a new installation of wordpress or is there are plugin that does this for us?

We are currently using the plugin Updraftplus to backup the site: and will also ask on their forum but essentially we want to know what we would do in a disaster scenario where we lost everything.

Many thanks in advance

    Hi there @Adam Wallis

I hope you had a great weekend!

It looks like UpdraftPlus has all that built-in judging by the feature list:

But, basically, if you need to restore a site from scratch, you would first set up a fresh install of WordPress on the server. Then import & restore the latest backup you made.

Depending on the plugin used for that, there may be additional configuration steps & tweaks required. Their support staff should be able to inform you as to the specifics of their plugin (I've never used that particular one before myself, so I can't say for sure what might need doing).

I hope this helps! And thanks for being a member

Something same has happened to me but to make it worst, I have lost database as well. Is there any way using which I can restore website? All files are with me but DB could not be downloaded and now I have my account with that particular web hosting company terminated as my contract got over.

    Hey @ashish,

Thanks for posting in this thread, however it might be best if you open your own, even if the issues seem closely related. That way it will remain independent of this one and ensure it doesn't confuse issues here if this thread needs reopening again by the author.

It also means the member who started this thread or anyone following it isn't inundated with post notifications each time we respond to each other. A lengthy thread could annoy the original poster.
