Hummingbird Performance Report

Hi,

I received the following recommendations after running the Performance test:

Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:

https://cdn.phen375online.com/wp-content/themes/focusblog/style.css?ver=4.4.2

https://cdn.phen375online.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-hummingbird-cache/cae16fae6d36f2370d061d63a893d202.css

https://cdn.phen375online.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-hummingbird-cache/c48b660f52a80ed09f64f8bf6ca02e63.css

https://cdn.phen375online.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-hummingbird-cache/1be64dcb102786729b53dbf27dfc599a.css

How do you solve the above?

Thanks.
Ethan

    Hey Ethan,

Hope you're doing well today

Try going to minification panel and from there change the loading method of your files to footer, note that this might affect your site styling depending on how the files will react on moving them to footer so you should remember current loading methods before making the changes.

    Hi Ethan,

Those are cached file that contain combined original theme and plugin files.

I see that in minification all the files are still set to be loaded on original location, so you need to change the actual file load location to footer in order for hummingbird combined files to be loaded there as well.

    Hi Predrag

I'm sorry but I thought Hummingbird would do the change automatically.

As I am not technical, and do not want to break my site, which files should I move to the footer and which should I leave in their original position?

    Best Regards,
    Ethan

    Hello Ethan!

I'm sorry but I thought Hummingbird would do the change automatically.

Due to the nature of minification process it's not possible to automatically determine all the settings and/or to provide any kind of "universal set of settings". This is because there's virtually an infinite number of combinations of plugins + themes + WP versions around and each setup is in fact very different so what would work great for one site could break other one completely.

This is why minification has to be configured individually for each site. It's a bit daunting task, I realize. However, it's well worth spending some time and experimenting a bit.

Having that said, I'll be happy to help you with it but I'd need to access your site to be able to do this. Would you mind granting me a support access to your dashboard so I could take a closer look at it and help you optimize settings.

Here's a guide on how to grant an access:

    Hello Ethan ,

Hope you are well today and won't mind me chiming here.

I can see that you are using plenty of plugins. But offering manual minification/testing for all those plugins is quite time consuming task and does not falls in scope of support service here.

But believe me its very very easy task. You only need to keep few things in mind and you are good to go with it.

Here are things which will help you to understand Minification settings in bit depth.

I'll go point by point here, please refer above screenshot if you face any difficulty in understanding what option does what.

#1) This block defines filters and exposes it via dropdowns. So you can select which plugin's files you want to check. Once you select plugin name from drowpdown, beneath file details will be updated and will display files of selected plugin.

#2) This block is for applying bulk operations which are,
#2.a > Include : Files will be included in site's loading or not
#2.b > Minify : Files will be minified or not.
#2.c > Combine: Weather you want combining file content feature enabled or not.
In this block you'll also see "Position" section, which defines where all the files will be loaded. You are given 3 options for it, #1) Header, #2) Original and #3) Footer

#3) This column is for individual settings for including file. Turning this off will not load file in site loading

#4) This column is for individual minification settings. Turning this off, will leave file unminified means as it is.

#5) Hummingbird combines few files content to load quickly and efficiently. This option determines weather to combine file content with other file or not. Turning this off will not combine file's content with other files.

#6) Again its individual position configuration for specific files

#7) Stats which shows wow much reduction you are achieving with file.

Hope this helps yo to play with minification settings of Hummingbird.
    Cheers,
    Milan

    Hi Milan,

Thanks for your response. Can you at least help remove the Hummingbird problems?

I ran a Performance Test and Hummingbird seems to be the main cause of the problems (4 out of 6). :

    Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

    Hi Ethan,

As mentioned above those are reports for the loading method of the files and HB will load depending on the place your original files are loaded.

For example, let's say you have HB file called something like this minifiedfiles.css, this file will be combination of multiple files, let's say that minified file has these files combined in it, style.css, custom-styling.css etc.

So if you leave style.css and custom-styling.css to be loaded from original position the HB combined file minifiedfiles.css will be loaded from there as well.

    Hope this makes sense

    Best regards,
    Predrag
