[hummingbird] Site down after updating, strange code in htaccess

After updating Hummingbird plugin earlier at around 4am (11/10/2019), my site went down.

I contacted my web host and they told me:

Quote:

Thank you for contacting us,

Below are the lines that were added to your htaccess file by the hummingbird plugin. Now that these lines are commented out, the site is up and running.

#ErrorDocument 503 “Temporarily unavailable”
#RewriteEngine on
#RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^.*(Hummingbird)*$ [OR]
#RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*(Hummingbird).*$
#RewriteRule .* – [R=503,L]

ErrorDocument 403 ”
Error 403 – Forbidden

# block brute force botnet and empty user agent

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0|^-?$)
RewriteRule (.*) – [F,L]

# end block

So, after they commented out those lines, the site started working again.

Would like to figure out how this happened.
