Hummingbird stuck "Checking Files"

Hummingbird was able to check and optimize my primary site (https://www.edsvcs.com) in a MS installation but is stuck "Checking Files" on http://www.edfocus.com which is an additional site in that network. The same thing is happening on the primary site of another MS installation https://www.nosee.me. How can I resolve this?

    Hi Steven,

Hope you are doing good today.

I checked your edfoucs site, and I could notice the issue. However, I was able to notice the following console errors:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'finished' of undefined

Since I don't see you mention about performing a plugin conflict test, could you please run a quick plugin/theme conflict test as illustrated in getting support manual (flowchart), and rule out whether any other plugin is causing this issue.
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/using-wpmu-dev/getting-support/

Please do let us know how that goes, once we get this issue sorted, we can focus on nosee.me website, as the error might be similar. Have a nice weekend.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin

I disabled every plugin except the WPMUDEV and removed and reinstalled Hummingbird. It was then able to complete the scan on all 3 sites in my installation. I then started activating plugins one by one and testing Hummingbird again each time until all the plugins were active again. Curiously, each time, it only suggested consolidating files into the header or footer in the primary site (#1) and one of the two additional sites (#3), but not the other site (#2). Shouldn't it do this in each site? I set all three sites to the default theme and ran it again but got the same result.

I then forced 3 files into the footer and saved but it still does not show any files being combined.

It's not getting stuck anymore but do you have any idea why it is not optimizing site #2?

    Hi Steven,

Hope you are doing good today.

I can confirm that it actually did combine files, it just does not show on the screen...

Not sure whether I'm following your exact issue, could you please mention on which screen you are seeing that it's not combined. I checked your subsite with ID #2, and in the front end, only 3 Hummingbird cache files are created, ie one CSS, and 2 JS files. For eg:
    /wp-hummingbird-cache/5d73bb0b27437b61db73339540f5129b.css

I could only notice that you have tried to move the files to header, and footer, under Hummingbird > Minification, and wasn't able to notice any issue with combine. Could you please advise what I'm missing so that we could give a closer look. Have a nice day.

More craziness.... I started noticing mixed http: and https: content errors on my pages. Viewing the source showed that some of the hummingbird includes were correctly https: but others were http: so this was my problem. I have cleared all browser cache and disabled SuperCacher through cPanel. When I disable minification the error goes away. When I enable it comes back. I network deactivated the plugin and deleted it. Now, the WPMUDEV Plugins screen shows that it is still installed and only offers the option to Network Activate. Of course, it can't because it has been deleted.

Looking in file manager, I see that there are still files in the wp-hummingbird-cache folders for each of my sites. I deleted all folders under public_html\wp-content\uploads\sites\<siteno> and public_html\wp-content\uploads.

Looking in the database, I see "minification_chart" folders for each site so I Dropped them. I also found numerous records in the <siteno>_options and sitemeta tables with option names starting with wphb containing references to wphb-min-scripts-<etc> and wphb-min-styles-<etc> so I deleted all those records

Went back into my site admin and WPMUDEV plugins page no longer shows Hummingbird installed.

Installed, Network Activated, and configured it again in the admin and in each site.

On the primary site I was able to activate Hummingbird and it works as it should. Interestingly, it defaulted to not minifying or combining several files. Each time I have used it before this was enabled by default for all files. Is that expected or does it indicate I still have cleanup to do?

On site #2 navigating to Hummingbird in the admin menu shows the typical first-time screen offering to Check Files. I click that, it goes through the normal checking routine, then returns to that same screen offering to Check Files.

On site #3 the Check Files appears to work and presents the minification screen with all the files shown but the OUTPUT HEADER & FOOTER sections are again blank. Opening pages on that site shows 500 errors on get requests for hummingbird files.

Clearly my hummingbird install is scrambled. Please advise how to completely remove it and reinstall. I must have missed something when I attempted to do it manually.

For now I have again deactivated and deleted it.

    Hello Steven,

Can you enable again support access as it looks now its no longer working? I want to check those issues on your site. As for resetting minification, please follow
    1. Go to "Hummingbird -> Minification" page
    2. Toggle the very first switch (on the left of "re-check files" button) off

This should "reset" these minification settings and after clicking on "re-check files" it should bring back default/suggested configuration.

If you already did reinstalled plugin and had similar issues every time I think reason is somewhere else than in corrupted installation. But I will be able to tell more after I will see that issue live.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Hi Steven,

Hope you are doing good today.

Could you temporarily disable the cache plugin, and then in the network admin, under Hummingbird > Dashboard, could you please reset the settings by click the CLEAR button, present in the top right corner of the page.

This will reset all the plugin settings, please perform the minification for all your 3 sites, and see whether it helps. Please keep the cache disabled, temporarily until we get this sorted.

Please let us know how that goes, so that we could give closer look. Have a nice day.

    Hi Steven,

Hope you are doing good today.

After clearing the Hummingbird settings and rescanning, the minification looks just as before - displays for sites 1 and 3 but not for 2. Other ideas?

I'm pinging the developer regarding this, so that he could give a better idea about this issue. Will keep you posted once I get an update from him.

I also found that Hummingbird does not play nice with Beaver Builder so I am leaving it disabled for now.

I suppose you meant you are having issues with running the Builder? Minification is meant to optimize your website, and it should be enabled only when you have finished working with your theme/builder. A website shouldn't not be optimized during it's development phase, once you are done with building your site, you can enable minification.

Please do note that developers work round the clock with many critical issues, and hence have a slow response time. Either myself, or the developer will keep you posted asap. Have a nice weekend.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin
