I am attempting to setup a course with 5 units, one unit

I am attempting to setup a course with 5 units, one unit of which currently has 8 pages. After getting 7 out of 8 pages defined without any errors, I get this error when attempting to add text to one one of the pages: Request Entity Too Large. Defining a new unit and adding a single page to it does not generate this error. My host is godaddy.com and the server side settings for php post requests/file uploads is set at 64MB.

I am concerned at this point that this is a flaw in the way coursepress pro is written because it would seem that all pages in a “unit” are submitted simultaneously via http post request when you click the “Save” button – if this is the case, this is a HUGE limitation for lengthy units. Please tell me there’s something else causing this that can be fixed without me having to completely re-arrange and re-enter all of my course data.

    Hi there @william

I am concerned at this point that this is a flaw in the way coursepress pro is written because it would seem that all pages in a “unit” are submitted simultaneously via http post request when you click the “Save” button – if this is the case, this is a HUGE limitation.

Unfortunately that is how its written for now, however we are aware of this and the plugin is already undergoing major rewrites to give performance boosts so this will definitely change but not right away.

Also a newer version is released which has significant improvements, you could consider upgrading and seeing if that fixes the error. Otherwise consider increasing limits from 64MB to say 96MB ?

    Cheers

Changing the upload limits isn’t a possibility for most of us in a shared hosting environment. It’s a pity it was coded this way to begin with, it really bloats the amount of fields/data submitted unnecessary.

I went ahead an applied the update but not too surprisingly, the update didn’t resolve the issue.

When will an updated version be released that doesn’t send all unit data via http post every time you click the save button?

    Hey William,

    Hope you’re doing well today!

We don’t have an ETA for the re-write update as often during development issues can come up and delay the update further and I would hate to give an ETA and then have it end up being pushed back. As Jude mentioned though, it is currently being worked on

Let us know if you have any further questions in the meantime. I’ve flagged this ticket too so we can update you here when it does get released.

    All the best,

    Tyler
