I am having a hard time figuring out the way to style

I am having a hard time figuring out the way to style the facebook connect button… Screenshots attached!

Also on a more serious note I am trying to figure out a way that I can access a users public profile data (name, current city, avatar) using the facebook api… I would like to keep it simple if possible and was curious if you might have a solution for this?

Ex. A user hits the page (they are logged into facebook in another tab) and I query the fb api for their basic public data and then can display something like "Welcome NAME" with an avatar, etc.

Thanks for helping!… Liking the plugins so far!

    Hey there.

I am having a hard time figuring out the way to style the facebook connect button… Screenshots attached!

That would be through an iFrame, you can’t style that.

    Facebook don’t allow it either.

Our Ultimate Facebook plugin can get that data. If you can have the data go to BuddyPress profile fields too.

You can then access the data from your BP tables.

    Thanks for the quick reply…

So I have the fields being mapped to buddypress already… That happens AFTER a user authenticates…

I am looking for a way to get & display the public data BEFORE a user authenticates…

As for the button styling… I have seen other sites with custom facebook connect buttons… Is this possible maybe?

As I said the button is pulled from Facebook, through an iFrame, you can’t style that as it’s not content on your site directly.

They need to authenticate and confirm you can have those details before you can use them all I believe.

Some further on registration for you:

I am after the users PUBLIC data… Not the private / extended permissions facebook data…. This is publicly available information and should be available via the graph search api…

I have been doing research and many people I have talked with have said it’s very doable… Both on facebook and the wordpress irc channels…

No thoughts on how I could accomplish this?

Again… A user hits the site but is logged into facebook in another tab… I want to use a facebook function like getUser to get the $uid then query to get their public info (avatar, name, etc)… So I can display it if it’s available!

Ah, I see what you mean, looking through their docs I see there is an example of how to get this through the Graph API:

    https://graph.facebook.com/btaylor

Full video on how to do that sort of stuff, I found that quite insightful and should get you on the way to what you want:

    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/api/

    And SDKs here:

    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sdks/

You can take a look in the Ultimate Facebook code to see what’s done here.

If you require coding advice and guidance then you would need to use our Gold plan:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/plans

We could then even ask our Ultimate Facebook developer for input on custom developments.

Hopefully you will find this of help.

    Cheers.
