I installed the farms 133 theme pack to offer it to users.

Hi,

I installed the farms 133 theme pack to offer it to users. My question is I assume only one theme can be used at a time? In other words, a user cannot have more than one subsite for each theme, correct?

Is there a way for more than one theme to be used by the user at the same time? Can a subsite of a subsite be created? I don't really see the benefit of having 133 themes if only one theme at a time can be used. So, is there a plugin that I can get built or something so that the user can use more than one theme? I know technically I could create multiple subsites for the user but it will be hard to track how many subsites are for that user.

Please let me know what is the best way to be able to use more than one theme by a user.

Thanks!
Janet

    Hi there @Janet

    I hope you're having a great day!

In essence, you are correct. By default in WordPress, only one theme can be enabled at any given time on any given site in your network.

So a user can only have one theme active on their site.

But, as you surmise, each user can have multiple sites, with a different theme active on each site.

However, I think you are asking if the default behavior can be overridden, and allow for different themes on the same site in the network.

You'll be happy to learn that it can indeed be done with the help of a plugin.

There are 2 such plugins that I know of; there may be more though:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-logic/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/jonradio-multiple-themes/

The first one, Theme Logic, is really simple and it works just fine. See the different themes in action on the frontpage and the Sample Page of my test install here:
    http://theme-switch.patrickcohen.net/

The 2nd one gives you much more detailed control over what theme should display where. We have a nice article on our blog that goes over much of that:

Please let us know if this helps, and don't hesitate to post again if you need to.

    Hi Patrick!

I was not asking whether two themes or more could be used for one subsite.

What I was asking was whether one subsite could be used separately with each theme? I would think not because it is only one sub domain?

    You wrote above:
"But, as you surmise, each user can have multiple sites, with a different theme active on each site."

So, I am confused now. You mean I can create multiple subsites for each user with different themes?

So, in other words, since the the 133 theme pack has so many themes I was wondering whether it could be possible to create more than one subsite with each theme not to put more than one theme on one subsite. So, I would want the user to create additional subsites with their subsite instead of me creating additional subsites for the user. I was wondering whether there was a plugin that would allow this functionality.

    Hello @Janet

I hope you are well today.

As Patrick said, according to WordPress, a site can use one theme at a time. But multiple themes can be available for that site.

If you go to Network Admin > Themes > and network enable some themes, those themes will be appeared in subsites > Dashboard > Appearances > Themes section. But the subsite admin needs to choose one theme and activate. He can activate any other available theme in any time, but only one theme can be activate at a time.

So, you can network enable as many themes as you want and all those themes will be available for the subsite and only one theme will be active.

Hope it helps  Please feel free to ask more question if you have.

    Cheers
    Ash
