Cloudflare SSL

I would like to migrate my Multisite subdomain installation to WPMUDEV Hosting. I am using Cloulflare, the Dedicated SSL Certificate is valid for the Wildcard SSL certificate required by WPMUDEV Hosting?

    Hey Thomas Edgell ,

Hope you’re doing well today

Unfortunately it’s not possible, to have a full automated subdomain installation we will need a Private Key (created during CSR process), Certificate and Certificate chain and unfortunately Cloudflare doesn’t offer this.

So, you will need to buy a Wildcard SSL certificate for other 3rd party provider.

I hope this information has been helpful. If I can help you in this or other related question, please let me know!

    Cheers, Luís

    Luís Thanks for the information.

I have gone ahead and purchased 3 wildcard certificate (1 for the website I have started and the other 2 for future multisite that I will be migrating to your hosting platform). I have followed the steps offered at https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/hosting/ssl-https/ however when I used the suggested tool (https://csrgenerator.com/) it does not specify as to whether I need to use the domain name by itself or add the wildcard to the CSR (domain.com or *.domain.com)

Can you clarify this step, please?

I talked with Comodo Support and they said that if I needed to have you install the certificate on the server, then I need to send you the invite link and that you will need to get the information from me in order to create the CSR and Private Keys that you are looking for.

Here is a screenshot that shows the invite link:

    https://www.screencast.com/t/mBoShLp9v3c

I have blocked out the transaction id for privacy.

Please let me know where I can send each link to be installed on the 3 domains that I have created from the hosting dashboard. One wildcard certificate needs to be installed on each domain so that I can change the multisite setting to subdomain. I will provide you with the information needed to generate the CSR and Private Keys within the email or I can generate the CSR & private keys and add the info to the email. I need to complete this migration ASAP so that I may request a refund from my current hosting provider.

    Hi Thomas Edgell,

I’m afraid, our Hosting team could only help with installing the CSR, Private Key, Certificate, and Certificate chain on the website once those are generated from your side. These are steps which you’ll have to perform in your side.

From the given screencast video, it seems like a SSL buying guide, and you’ll have to paste the CSR in order to generate the SSL.

Please check more about what’s CSR in here:

    https://www.digicert.com/csr-creation.htm

You can use the following website to generate CSR, and Private key:

    https://csrgenerator.com/

Where you can enter the Country, state, locality, common name(your website URL for eg abc.com), keysize(2048) etc

You’ll have to ensure while purchasing SSL that it covers all subdomains ie suppose the URL is abc.com, it should cover (*.abc.com) and also (abc.com) as well so single SSL works for abc.com and subdomain.abc.com too.

This is something you’ll have to confirm with Comodo during purchase. Once the CSR, and Private Keys are generated.

You can insert the CSR in Step 4 including:

    BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST
    And
    END CERTIFICATE REQUEST

Server type in step 8 would be NGINX, if not listed “Other” option should be fine.

Once done, you’ll have to point the domain(eg abc.com) to our host site so that we could install the SSL certificate with the generated information.

I hope this brings more clarity. Please do check, and let us know if you have any further query.

    Kind Regards,

    Nithin

    Hi Thomas Edgell,

I found the email, thanks for sending in. However, I’m afraid it seems like the Private Key is missing. Rest of the details do seem correct, and intact.

Please do note that before installing the SSL you’ll also have to point the domain to our host so that the website loads as a top level domain(TLD) like abc.com.

Please do check the following documentation on how to do that:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/hosting/dns-and-domain-management/#chapter-getting-started

Once the website is pointed as mentioned above, only then our Hosting team could install the SSL. Please share the private key for these 3 domains. You can use Google Drive, or any 3rd party services to share a download link.

You can send the download link by using our secure contact form: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/#i-have-a-different-question

    – To Mark to my attention, the subject line should contain only: ATTN: Nithin Ramdas

-Link to download private key for 3 websites

-link back to this thread for reference

    -any other relevant URLs

Please do follow up in the ticket once you have sent the above credentials. Have a nice day.

    Kind Regards,

    Nithin

Nithin How much longer will this take? I confirmed via chat that you have everything required.

    Chat session:

    Patrick Freitas 11:08:23 am

We will add the Domain on Hosting portal > Domains, it should allow the SSL be installed, this is the normal flow our sysadmins are taking already for other members too

    Thomas Edgell 11:09:33 am

So from what you can see from the thread and the files that I have sent, there should be no further delay and I can final migrate the sites?

    Patrick Freitas 11:12:24 am

Yes, it seems all good now, the main issue was to generate the request, but now that you sent the files should be fine to keep working

    Hey Thomas Edgell ,

The certificates look OK for all 3 websites. Please inform me when you have added your Primary Domains on your Hosting Hub and the DNS are changed to look at your new hosting environments so we can apply the certificates as well for you.

Also do inform me if you need any help with the migrations as well.

    Regards,

    Konstantinos

    Hi Konstantinos Xenos ,

I appreciate that you have updated the thread with the announcement that the SSL Certs have been installed.

However, I still do not have the option to go to the hosting dashboard, tools, multisite and select subdomain in order to start the migration.

Please let me know when this option will be available.

    Regards

    Tom

    Hey Thomas Edgell ,

Since the subdomains need the ssl certs we don’t have them “open” yet for a manual selection via the UI as it would create more confusion at the moment. The option will shortly be available also though as our Sysadmins are working towards that.

For the time being you can convert the website to a subdirectory multisite and then via editing wp-config.php you can set the “define( ‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false );” to “define( ‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, true );”.

If you use the hosting migration tool ( Tools -> Migrate Existing Site ) the above steps are not needed as the environment will adapt itself depending on your existing WP config that will be migrated.

    Regards,

    Konstantinos
