Images in FAQs?

Hi,

Is there a way to add images to FAQs? I can’t figure out a way to do this effectively.

Of course, a picture is worth a thousand words (according to some people), so this would allow our FAQs to be much more beneficial to our users.

If I’m missing something obvious, please forgive me.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks! Somehow I missed that. I did try putting in HTML, but I must have been using tags that aren’t allowed or something.

On further experimentation, I do find that some tags or formatting items don’t seem to be supported, for example line break tags before or after an image don’t seem to be recognized…therefore it’s hard to space the images. And classes like alignleft, alignright, etc. don’t seem to be honored.

I’d like a bit more granular control…I’d be happy to tweak the plugin to allow more tags, and/or the CSS to allow more styling. Can you suggest a good place to start as far as adding supported tags? I can’t locate the part in the plugin that determines which tags are honored.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi,

As Super Admin, shouldn’t those restrictions not apply?

If they do apply, is there a way I can enable them for Super Admin to create the FAQs, without allowing end users to use all the same tags?

We definitely need fine-tuned HTML control to present the FAQ content effectively.

    Thanks,

    Hiya Mark,

Yeah, as Super Admin you shouldn’t have any restrictions or filters on html. All other users do have some kind of filtering. However, I believe some tags such as <object> or <embed> are always filtered as considered ‘untrusted’.

There are two plugins that assist with filtering HTML that I know of (besides our additional tags plugin). I tested embedding images and other basic HTML in FAQs and didn’t have any trouble. Is there a specific code that’s giving you difficulty?

    Here’s the two other plugins:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/unfiltered-mu/

    Thanks!

The problem is that the FAQs only seem to honor a few HTML tags. For example, I wrote up HTML with an image aligned right, and the image alignment was not honored. In addition, I couldn’t even get < /br > tags to work to put some spacing between paragraphs and images (after giving up on trying to integrate the images into the paragraphs with right alignment.

I just wish that various formatting tags would work in this scenario. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hiya Mark,

Sorry this one got overlooked. I’ve tested this on one of my installs and I am able to embed images and use the break tag and several other HTML elements that I tried at random.

I used the following for line break:

    <br />

And this is the image I embedded:

    <img src="https://premium.wpmudev.org/wp-content/projects/168/listing-image-thumb.png" />

I can’t think of why either of these wouldn’t be working on our install. Did you try the unfiltered-mu plugin?

Strange. I’ll try again. I do also remember that image alignment tags were not honored. For example, I wanted to put a small image at the top right of a paragraph to illustrate the point being made in the paragraph, but it had no effect either. Are you able to test successfully with image alignment tags as well?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hiya Mark,

Let us know if you get this working. I tried aligning an image to the right and it worked for me. I'm attaching a screenshot showing several different html variations that I tried and was successful with.

    Again, let us know though.

    Thanks!

Sorry, but I’m still having lots of trouble with this. For example, I don’t see the toggle between HTML and Visual mode. I don’t have buttons to add images. And if I paste HTML in from elsewhere, it generally doesn’t appear and I get a message like:

Something happened, and nothing was updated.

For example, if I paste the embed code for one of the new videos, it simply doesn’t take. WIthout the ability to reliably enter HTML, it’s hard to create effective tutorials and FAQs. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hiya Mark,

    Ahh…. I think I see the step we’ve over-looked.

There isn’t a toggle to go between HTML and Visual mode. Try going to your user profile and selecting “Disable the visual editor when writing”

Then, when you go to the Manage FAQ area you should only see the text box and be able to enter in all html code. I don’t even use the Visual Editor for these.

I’m not sure about any specific embed codes that wouldn’t work. As super admin you should be fine. If you have any trouble and can provide the specifics on the code, we’ll take a look with you.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I’ll try that. However, I’d like to suggest adding the ability to toggle the visual editor in the FAQs. I do use it elsewhere, so it would be more convenient that way (rather than doing it globally in the settings just to edit FAQs).

However, given the relatively low amount of time I’ll be working on FAQs instead of other things, it certainly isn’t the end of the world either.

    Thanks,

    Hiya Mark,

Yeah, having an html tab would be pretty great here. I’ll let the developers know and see if we can’t get that on the roadmap for a future version.

Let us know if you need any further help troubleshooting this issue.

    Thanks!
