Improve the SEO score based on suggested improvements from SmartCrawl

We have tried to improve the SEO score of the site based on the SEO checkup report.

One of the suggestions is
URL Structure: keywords but this is a one page site, is there a way to fix this?

Label Duplicate ARIA Landmarks there is a form from Gravity Forms, is it possible to fix this one too?

We would appreciate if you could provide more guidance on the other elements too.

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

Those are recommendations but there are some cases when not all can always be addressed and that’s actually fine as they should be considered more of “tips” rather than “ultimate and non-negotiable steps to follow” :slight_smile: Test can’t really detect whether the site is “one pager on purpose” so in this case the “URL Structure” recommendation can be safely ignored.

It could be “silenced” by defining words that are already in domain name as kewords for homepage but that wouldn’t really make any SEO difference other than “satisfying” the test. It’s also not a factor of great importance for some time already – it can help but it’s not “critical”.

As for “Label Duplicate ARIA Landmarks” that might be a bit more important because search engines (at least Google, I’m not sure about other ones) put more and more attention to the site accessibility and that’s related. However, it might also be really difficult to fix fully as it’s related to tweaking HTML code of the site which is generated by multiple scripts (WordPress itself, its theme and plugins on site).

In this case specifically it’s about “img” and “button” tags where some of them should have “arial-label” attribute added (unique). Are you sure they are from Gravity Forms only? If yes, it’d be best to get in touch with Gravity Forms and point that out to them as they should take care of it on the code level of their plugin.

But if I may suggest something, based on the other suggestions you got there from SmartCrawl: I’d rather focus on ALT attributes (there are two images reported without ALT attributes), H1 tags and anchor text.

For ALT attributes first try to adding them directly in Media Library by editing those listed images (there should be a field for that) and if the theme supports it, it should fix the issue. If not, we could then take another look on how to fix that.

For H1 tags it would mostly be a matter of editing site content so whenever H1 Heading is used it doesn’t contain words like “Home” but rather a descriptive text/phrase strictly related to what you want to target in content in SEO context

For anchor text – it’s best to explain by example. This is a link without anchor text:

This would also be with anchor text

So the point here is to make sure that links on site do have some informative text instead of only images or URLs. That usually can be done by editing content as well and if a link has to remain as image text could be made invisible with CSS.

Here’s the problem. Each and every image within my Media Gallery does have alt text. Thanks for checking Media Library and confirming that alts are set there. As I mentioned previously though, this “should” work in most cases but it also really depends on how the theme or – in this case – page builder is handling the images.

So I’ve checked the site and it seems that this is a matter of the module Retina Image module of your page builder that is used to add that image (in fact both “brought to you by” logo images in footer) to the footer of the page. Since adding ALT in Media Library didn’t work, it means that this must either be added by editing that module settings or might not be supported. I’m not much familiar with the builder that you’re using and I didn’t want to risk “experimenting” on a live site of yours so please try editing your homepage and see if there’s any way to add such alt there in image settings (it’s possible that “Caption” option there might also be used for that but I’m not sure). If you can’t find that, you might need to ask that page builder (or theme – if it’s integrated with theme) developers for advice on how to add ALTs there.

This is a bit different thing. The SEO Title is not the same as H1 tag. H1 tag (a “header” element on the page) is a HTML tag so it’s one of the basic “page building block” elements while the SEO Title is in this case the title that’s used on browser tab – to put it simply.

The recommendation shows that the H1 tag used on site is currently using text: “Professional Real Estate Photography at its best!” as seen on the page. You can also see that if you look in the site’s source code so it suggests that it could use more keywords. It’s not “crucial” but to change it you would just need to edit that block on a page that contains the “Professional Real Estate Photography at its best!” slogan (H1 heading) and change it to contain more keywords related to the content. However, this again is a matter of some “compromise” or “balance” that you need to decide on – if that would mean changing your site’s/marketing/company slogan too much or making it too “messy” it might be better to skip on this.

Having said that, let me just add something (also from my own experience) that I believe is important here. The thing with SEO is that it’s not really that “straightforward”. It’s much more a game of intuition, experiments and patience rather than following any “step by step guides up to the point”. It’s much more “fuzzy” and much less “predictable” than this and all the tests like this – may it be from SmartCrawl or any tool or service – are meant to be some suggestions to provide you some insights and general “guidance” only as it’s simply not possible to test the site and give a “bullet point list” of “things to do to put the site on 1st place in search results with 100% certainty” :slight_smile:
