Inconsistent Subscribe By Email Behaviour

A user on my multisite has reported that the daily digest email does not seem to be sending.

The logs confirm this, showing that the last message was sent just now when I recently visited the site, rather than at the 4am time determined in the plugin settings (the latest post was a few days ago so it should have died much sooner).

I’ve just tried to subscribe to the blog to do some further testing and have not received the email to confirm my subscription.

Can you help me troubleshoot this?

    Subscribe by email relies on WordPress scheduling to do scheduled task. WordPress scheduling relies on the traffic of your website, you need to get frequent visits to trigger a schedule task on time. Also WordPress scheudling is not 100% accurate most of the time. In heavy traffic website the accuracy is 99% not 100%. Its hard to admit but this is how WordPress works.

    Try adding below code in wp-config.php file, you can find this file in the folder you installed WordPress.

    define( 'ALTERNATE_WP_CRON', true );

    Add before the lines that says.

    /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
