Installing wordpress on Local Host running Ubunutu

I have successfully installed wordpress on my localhost on Ubuntu.

All features appear nominal with the exception of the following:

– unable to access wordpress core system

– unable to install to these

– unable to install new plugins

– unable to remove plugins.

Reason keeps prompting for

Error: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.

To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

I have entered my linux password, phpmyadmin password and wordpress password

assigned files permissions to myself, chmod 777

and basically scoured the internet for any possible solution, however it all keeps coming up with the same problem.

Please Help me!

    PROBLEM SOLVED:

For those who are having a pain staking task in solving this there is a simple solution.

    Add this to your wp-config.php

    define(‘FS_METHOD’,’direct’:wink:;

Due to linux having such a more restrictive file system, this will enable to you write directly to the folder.

Took 9 long hours, but finally solved this problem.

    Heya galaxy5,

Thanks for posting the solution! I think I’ll be setting up LAMP soon enough on my dual-booted Windows/Ubuntu setup, but as I haven’t tried it yet, I wouldn’t have known that one. Your post here will definitely have saved me time when I get around to it so many thanks for that!
