Internal 500 error

Wordpress Multisite 3.1
using MarketPress

When a new user tries to create a blog he receives the generated password via email but then when he tries to log in to wp-login.php he gets

"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Here is the error log...
I contacted the hosting company(Bluehost) and they said that it looks like a scripting error for which they do not offer support. How do I fix this? Thx

    Few questions:

    How come your host is using XAMP, why not host on a nix based machine, something like Centos5, or do you require Windows for something?

    Looking at this error:

    NoCase option for non-regex pattern '-f' is not supported and will be ignored

    It seems to be an issue with how your .htaccess is written, a quick Google gave me this url:

    http://sparko.ca/en/blog/free-stuff/2010/01/apache-error-httpd-nocase-option-for-non-regex-pattern-is-not-supported-and-will-be-ignored.html

    instead of using in .htaccess:

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f [NC,OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d [NC]

    prefer to use:

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

    Another (yet better!) solution is to use:

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    I also see a lot of " No such file or directory " which means it can not find the file, so something must be missing which a script is calling. The links to http://www.creativeteensclub.org/ctc/node/37 is for a drupal website, I presume this is yours.

    Also interested why you add the handler for php5 there, is the server php4 by default still because PHP dropped support for V4 a fair while ago now?

    One of the links in your error code above gives me a Chrome browser error:

    http://www.rs2-accounts.com contains content from gs4gshshfs.vv.cc, a site known to distribute malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site.
    Google has found malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed, and perhaps try again tomorrow or go somewhere else.
    We have already notified gs4gshshfs.vv.cc that we found malware on the site. For more about the problems found on gs4gshshfs.vv.cc, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page.

    There is a lot of information in that error log but I'm not sure any of it pertains to WordPress or MU specifically. Address the issues one by one perhaps with the regex issue first.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    This is still an issue.

    The URLs
    http://www.rs2-accounts.com
    http://www.creativeteensclub.org/ctc/node/23/
    are not my sites so I'm not sure why they are showing up.... maybe spam bots?

    The .htaccess rules were the ones that WP multi site suggested http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

    I see that Network Setup has a slightly different set of wp-config and .htaccess rules so I updated these but it still doesn't work....

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L]
    RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(.*\.php)$ $1 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    define( 'MULTISITE', true );
    define( 'SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', false );
    $base = '/';
    define( 'DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'stiitch.net' );
    define( 'PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );
    define( 'SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );
    define( 'BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

    Tim-
    Re:How come your host is using XAMP, why not host on a nix based machine, something like Centos5, or do you require Windows for something?
    I used Bluehost bc I already had a relationship w them.

    Re:
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    I edited .htaccess to reflect this suggestion and now I get a 404 error.

    The URLs

    http://www.creativeteensclub.org/ctc/node/23/

    They are in your post as your logs, stating they cannot find something, if they are nothing to do with you then I would be concerned about a potential security problem, it might be worth having your host investigate to see if any rogue scripts or code has been uploaded.

    In the following are you saying this is all in the .htaccess file?

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]
    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L]
    RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(.*\.php)$ $1 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]
    define( 'MULTISITE', true );
    define( 'SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', false );
    $base = '/';
    define( 'DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', 'stiitch.net' );
    define( 'PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/' );
    define( 'SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );
    define( 'BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1 );

    The 404 will be because the the paths are not correct:

    Re:
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    That I provided was just an example.

    hi- topic not solved... see previous messages. Thx.

    I'm volunteering my time here so please don't hold expectations of me unless I offer them.

    This is how my .htaccess file looks (I use suPHP which you might not):

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    suPHP_ConfigPath /path/public_html
    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    Well thats the basics of my .htaccess, I also have WPSuperCache running, so there is stuff in mine for that as well.

    Atlanta

    Tim, thanks for your help.
    The suggestion of

    "RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]"

    helped, I changed -f and not -d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
    RewriteRule "." - [skip=100]

    The other sites that showed up were from my hosting provider BlueHost's shared log, not my log. I'm not sure why I would be able to see everybody's logs. Sorry for the confusion. Closing out this ticket.

    Your are very welcome!

    I don't mean to deter you from your host but you may wish to let them know about the the malicious content message I received from Google. Issues could arise for you if server IPs become blacklisted because you would be tarred with the same brush and thus could be removed from search engines and such.

    Sites associated with spam and such content can also become listed in Project Honey Pot and other similar sites which of course could blacklist you based on others actions.

    Just things to consider based upon the Google warning, you might of course never have an issue.

    Take care.
