Is the mu-plugins directory still used in 3.1?

Is the mu-plugins directory still used in 3.1? Although the install instructions tell you to create the mu-plugins directory, all of the plugin installation instructions I have read, have the plugins going to the primary plug-ins directory. Do any plug-ins go to mu-plugins now?

@antkat - yeah we switched over a lot of plugins to the standard plugins directory but mu-plugins is still very useful to keep around for fixes / updates and tweaks that are needed. Some plugins we've kept using mu-plugins because they are fundamental to a multi-network install and need to be activated across all blogs/sites so it's safer to use that method than activating on all sites/blogs.
