Is there a way to show the Excerpt instead of the Content so shortcodes aren't shown?

The Recent Global Posts Widget is about the only way we've been able to show aggregate posts from our entire network, but it only offers the option to show the Content, and not the Excerpt data, which means that shortcodes show up as the raw [shortcodes], which looks bad on the homepage.

Is there any hack to make the plugin show Title, Blog, Excerpt instead of Title. Blog, Content?

Thanks a bunch!

    Hi Mark,

    Hope you're well?

    Can you try the following?

    Open up and edit /wp-content/plugins/recent-global-posts-widget/widget-recent-global-posts.php

    Find the following (around line 175):

    $the_content = network_get_the_content();

    Replace with;

    $the_content = network_get_the_excerpt();

    Hope this helps

    Perfect, thanks Vaughan! This did the trick.

    I'm assuming I'll have to apply this hack every time the plugin is updated, so if I can also use this thread to suggest this feature as an option in the next version (I'm sure some others would want this also), here it is. :wink:

    Thanks again!

    Hello Rohit!

    Thank you for backing up that feature. I would however like to explain that it's not a fix but a "feature requrest". Posting (or moving to by staff) to the "Features and Feedback" forum doesn't automatically put a feature on development roadmap but makes it possible for other members of the community to vote for the idea. Then, if it gets more support our developers consider adding it to the "to do" list for plugin development. It seems however that this one was not particularly popular, hence no implementation yet.

    As you "refreshed" the topic, let's hope that other members will notice it and find it useful so they'll vote for it, thus giving our developers an incentive to implement it in future.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
