I've been trying

I've been trying for days now to improve the score of my page with google page speed insights and your own benchmark tool in hummingbird. It constantly comes back with images dropping the score. 9/100 for image optimization giving 37/100 in total. I've run the smusher multiple times and to no avail. It says everything is optimized but the tests say otherwise.
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

    Hi Richard,

    Hope you are well today.

I did a little investigation on your site. I see that your sliders or theme use a larges images.

Google page speed understands image optimization it his way.

    1. Losslessly compressing - This one's is telling that image can be optimized, that's what smushing takes care of and there are no such reports on your site.

    2. Compressing and resizing - This tells us that image is larger than its actual HTML holder.

The second one is what's shown in your results and that's because your theme is loading images larger than it's HTML holder, for example:

You slider has boxes 190px width and 125px height. Your slider or theme slider put there a files width 500px width and 356px height. CSS resized this images to fit in that holder.

Unfortunately this is not something Smush can deal with since the theme code is written in the way to call the larger image, and even though the image is compressed google doesn't like loading image larger than its holder, so this is something you need to check with the theme devs or in settings of your silder (check if there is a option to use other image, thumbnail for example).

    Kind Regards,
