Jetpack Conection Error w/ SSL - Help Evaluate Host's Solution Please


I hope your daay is going well!

I have been working on my WP Multisite at and have encountered an error in setting up the JetPack plugin.

The plugin installed ok, but is failing to connect (from either network admin or primary site admin).

The message reads:

Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [IXR -32300: transport error: http_request_failed error:14094410:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert handshake failure]

I have spent almost two weeks trying to fix this with my host's senior third-level support folks.

We have tried various things, including double-verifying that my account/SSL is configured correctly.

We now have identified a potential solution, and I am hoping to get some input on it. Basically, I'm not sure if this is going to cause me additonal issues down the road (a swallowed-the-spider-to-catch-the-fly scenario).

What has been suggested by my host is as follows:

Since the POST requests made by the JetPack system have failed I have looked closely at the code.

I have manually changed the following line in the wp-config.php file from:

define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', '');


define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', '');

Then I have managed to reach the Jetpack WordPress login page.

Any insight is appreciated
