Just about every responsive theme you see uses some variant on the hamburger. The trouble is, as of mid-2014 the data is coming in and they don't work.
This is especially frustrating to site admins who aren't also designer/developers. When something that has been so completely accepted, so ubiquitous suddenly falls out of favor, it's jarring. So why am I posting this? Because even if you can't afford to do anything with the data, it's good to be aware of it. When you are presented with a choice to do something several different ways, it's important to pick the one with the most utility; worry about the pretty later.
Here's an article from May of 2014 on the decline of the hamburger, and some of what is coming out to replace it.
