limit theme use

how about a plugin that limits the amount of times a theme is used by users of WPMU. Some theme developers limit the amount of times you can use a premium theme for your clients or users. It would be nice to be able to administer this in the backend.

Actually for stuff like that, we cheat and do it manually. Pay the 10 bucks manually and we’ll install a theme only for your use and assign it to your blog so that it can only be used on that specific blog. If you have decent control over your box/ server/ vps/ space/ whatever, you can set up ftp access for them as well. wp.com does this with trac and svn for their vip clients.

Limiting themes wouldn’t work because someone like John Doe (Edited since I see we have a Joe now here on the forums. Sorry about that.) could sneak in and use a high end theme for their Collection of 17th century porn figurines or something like that.

Whom should the payment made to?

The enduser wanting a specific and unique theme making payment to the site admin. My installs do this as a manual upgrade since assigning the theme is done manually anyway. Falls under the “Why bother writing a plugin that’ll take hours to write, debug, and support when it’s a two second fix?” concept. At least for us.
