Long load times

Hello, my site is currently experiencing extremely long load times (15+ seconds per page). I would like for your team to assist in optimizing the site , so that load times are brought back down to "normal" levels.

    Hi Tom

    I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

    I checked the site and in my opinion there's a couple of things that need attention. Let me list and explain them for you below.

    1. Redirects.

    Depending on how you're accessing the site there are up to 4 redirects. If you go to https://yourdomain.com (via HTTPS and without www) that's not that bad but if you go directly to "yourdomain.com" (no protocol prefix = http:// and no www) there's

    - first redirect http://yourdomain.com -> http://www.yourdomain.com
    - second http://www.yourdomain.com -> https://www.yourdomain.com
    - third https://www.yourdomain.com -> https://yourdomain.com

    I understand that the site is supposed to go over HTTPS connection all the time and is not supposed to use "www" prefix, is that right? I"m not sure why there's so many redirects there. Was the site moved from insecure connection to SSL secured one? Was the "www" prefix used there before? Are there any redirects either set in cPanel or defined in .htaccess?

    2. Plugins

    Currently you got 27 plugins active on site which is not that many but some of them are either not necessary or seem redundant. For example, I can see a Broken Link Checker there (which I honestly see no use for, apart from running it just from time to time while keeping it most of the time disabled), there are 3 plugins related to Google Analytics as well. I would strongly suggest reviewing the set of the plugins that you're using and disabling those that you don't use all the time (or that doesn't have to be used all the time) and removing any that are no longer necessary at all.

    3. Optimization by plugins

    That's something that seems to be problematic here. You're using SG Optimizer for caching which seems a logical thing to do as you are hosting your site with SiteGround. However, I also see that you got Hummingbird installed. Unfortunately, I wasn't even able to access its settings to check them because all it gives is a white screen with some timeouts in a console.

    That suggests that there's some conflict and I think that there might also be cache enabled there, though I'm not sure. We'd need to check it but in order to be able to do this, I would need a full access to the site and server so I would be able to debug the site (using WP debugging), diagnose Hummingbird (sometimes it might require dealing with its source code) and check server configuration (including disabling cache on server side).

    I'd be happy to investigate that for you and hopefully we would then find a way to speed it up and improve performance. To provide me with necessary access information, please send in:

    - Do not include anything else in the subject line, doing so may delay our response due to how email filtering works.
    - Link back to this thread
    - login URL and admin account login credentials (may be a temporary admin account) data
    - Include FTP log-in details (hostname, username & password)
    - Include hosting control panel access details (login address, username & password) - cPanel's usually the control panel used for this, but your provider may use something else; I'll need this for accessing your site's database, preferably via phpMyAdmin
    - Include any relevant URLs for your site

    Hello Tom

    Your site is now up and running, loading pretty fast, with quite a nice 88-90 (for mobile) and 94-95 (for desktop) Google PageSpeed Insights score.

    I have just sent you an e-mail explaining in details what was causing the issue and what have I done to fix it, along with some additional recommendations. I believe the site's now performing quite good and it should be all fine now :slight_smile:

    I hope that helps!

    Best regards,
    Adam
