Main site as a directory site

Hey Guys!

It's me again with a new issue.

I need a main site to my WPMU network like a directory site of all my network, where people can search something and the result will be shown on a directory of the blogs that has that tag.

Is it possible?

Thanks

Derek

    Greetings Derekmelo,

Thank you for being a WPMU Dev member!

I need a main site to my WPMU network like a directory site of all my network, where people can search something and the result will be shown on a directory of the blogs that has that tag.

    Is it possible?

Absolutely it is possible but could be a considerable challenge integrating the sub blogs tag search. Of course this could be overcome by simply having posts on the main site with the tags in them and if clicked on redirected to the sub site.

I was thinking about use a theme like this: http://demo.theme-junkie.com/movable/ But with the features I said above.

It can be pretty challenging to support other peoples work, but we do our best here to help you with any WordPress issues at all. I admit I have this exact theme myself and it did not work as anticipated to include integration in my case with Market press.

I was considering writing the maker with my issues which were directly related to the operation of the theme. However, I never got around to it choosing a different theme instead.

Please let us know if this does not resolve your problem by reopening this ticket below marking it as not resolved. Also please indicate if there are any new symptoms or errors.

Thank you for being a WPMU Dev member!

    Cheers, Joe

Hey Derekmelo, we are here, don't worry.

So you want Tags to be searchable? What about a search box as well? Or a widget to show blogs?

    Go grab this plugin:

https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/post-indexer <-- indexes all content after this plugin has been installed.

    Its used for this one:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/global-site-search

And now your users will be able to search your global site.

Then you could have some global tags:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/global-site-tags

    And some global RSS:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/recent-global-posts-feed

You could also have some recent global posts in a widget:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/recent-global-posts-widget

If you use BuddyPress then you also have a blogs directory there, but if not then we have one you can use:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/blogs-directory

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Take care and have a great day!

    Hey Timothy, how've you been?

    Your post really helped out!

But I've got one question. I've just installed the directory plugin and activated the theme and taxonomies, but the taxonomies on my home page are not appearing like the screen shots.

The categories are one below other... How can I change to side by side just like the screen shots?

    My home page is: http://imo123.com.br/

    Thanks

    Just one more issue:

I'm looking for a way to increase the search bar width, but I'm not getting to do this... I was looking for in the .css files, but I did not found the line where I increase the search bar width pixels, can you tell me where this line is?

    Thanks!

    Hey, I've been great thanks.

Not sure if you saw or not but we have a new beta release of the directory plugin:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/new-directory-plugin-version-20-beta

You can use this version within any design. If you need extra styling you can always do that through CSS.

You can then also use the normal search with that.

Let me know if that works for you?

    Take care,
    Tim.

Hi Tim, How've you been man?

I think I got confuse with this issue.

I wanted to use the directory plugin and this theme to search content across the network with the search bar of the theme, and I think it is impossible right?

As you described I just can search content using the global search witch let me search content on the search site page... And the content is indexed by the post index plugin right?

So, I think what I want is impossible, I thought I could use the directory plugin and the directory plugin theme to search the content as I said before...

I've got to get back all my project from 0 now... That's why I was not able to search posts even if I had the post indexer plugin activated.

    Man, I'm lost with multisite.

    Thanks Tim!

    Hey agian.

I've been very good and yourself?

I wanted to use the directory plugin and this theme to search content across the network with the search bar of the theme, and I think it is impossible right?

Ah, yes. The directory plugin is more of a yellow pages, business listing type plugin.

As you described I just can search content using the global search witch let me search content on the search site page... And the content is indexed by the post index plugin right?

Thats correct, using the plugins like Post Indexer and Global search will allow you to search your entire network.

So, if you stick Post Indexer on now, then it will start to index all new posts and tags made.

    Hope this helps.

    Take care.
