Make following tab default in buddypress

I want to make the following tab as default tab instead of profile activity tab. So, when a user visits his profile, he would see the following tab content.

If it is not possible maybe we can redirect to the following tab when activity tab is visited?

    Hey Chris,

    Hope you're doing well.

    I'm afraid that there's no easy redirect for this because doing a redirect would mean that each time you try to access profile page it will redirect you to your other tab, even if you want to switch to profile tab it would go back to the one we redirect it to.

    What you would need to do here is to edit the BP templates where the link is used and use your own link instead so that only those specific things are redirecting to your desired tab.

    For example, let's say that you want to link Avatar on profile page to "following" tab.
    You would need to copy the cover-image-header.php from /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/single/ and place it inside your child theme in a folder like this /wp-content/theme/child_theme/buddypress/members/single/.
    Now edit that copied file and find which part is the link, in this case it would be this code on line 25:
    <a href="<?php bp_displayed_user_link(); ?>">
    You would now need to change it a bit and add a different ending path so the code looks like this:
    <a href="<?php echo bp_displayed_user_link().'activity/following/'; ?>">

    You will need to make similar change to other BP files depending on where you want to use the custom link and that should do the trick.

    Best regards,
    Predrag

    I don't mind. The problem, however is that I don't have knowledge of coding. Can you help me do this? I have granted support access. All I want is that buddypress activity profile should redirect instantly to the posts of all those that the user is following and there should be a link on that page where that user can post updates. If the user has no followers, only the link to post updates should show. Thank God that the user can edit his profile by clicking his gravater at the top right.

    If you can help me with this, better. Support Access has been granted.

    Hi skc.chukwu,

    I'm afraid that we can't do this for you as it's quite lengthy task and goes beyond the scope of support that we can offer here, you can find more information about custom coding vs support here:
    https://premium.wpmudev.org/docs/getting-started/getting-support/#chapter-1

    We do try to help with any WP question but some, like this one, are taking quite some time and count as custom development.

    You can check the BuddyPress guide on how to customize the templates here:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/a-quick-look-at-1-7-theme-compatibility/

    And based on that modify the desired templates by adding link change as mentioned in my previous comment.

    If you need additional help to customize this then you can post a job in our jobs board where you can hire a developer to assist further:
    https://premium.wpmudev.org/wordpress-development/
    Please note that, no WPMU official staff members are allowed to work in the job board.

    Best regards,
    Predrag

    Hiya skc.chukwu

    Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. :slight_smile:

    If all you're looking to do is make the Following tab the default landing tab in BuddyPress user profiles, there's a handy little constant available that can be added to your wp-config.php or bp-custom.php file.

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/guides/change-members-profile-landing-tab/

    I hope this helps, and thanks for being a member!
