Making Pretty Side Bars with css/plugins

Hey guys,

So I have used a lot of plugins while building up my css knowledge base to configure the theme I am using. I now need to work on my side bar and so far the only thing I have done is change background color, make the titles centered etc. But it just doesn't cut it.

So I am wondering if there are any free plugins I can use completely customise the side bar.

Also if you can recommend any good guides out there to customise the side bar, that would be very helpful.

Thank you for answering!!

    Hi there @Nave

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

What would you like to do with the sidebar? Please advise, there's a nice overview here of adding and editing bits of the sidebar http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_Your_Sidebar

With regards to CSS, sidebars aren't the most exciting of things to customize as not a lot can be done, but let me know what you'd like to do

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

    Hey Jack,

I am fine, hope your good too. Let me post some things down below.

This is what it currently looks like.

    http://www.tgcs.com.pk/tgcs-report-for-today/

How do I create a subscription box like this? http://screencast.com/t/estT4UMDhCq

How about the design of Popular Posts http://screencast.com/t/Hqe6EH2FSd

If you saw my site you might have noticed its financial reports rather than articles and blogs. So I need to create some kind of widget in here so the users can enter the date of report they want to search or the type of product which in my case is commodities. An interactive form like widget to do the searching of blog/reports. Any recommended plugins for it.

Also I know how to put a background picture but what I dont know is how to optimize it in css so I can use it in side bars and form inputs etc. Any articles to learn how to use photoshopped or other image files to design forms and widgets etc. would be very helpful.

Thank you for having the patience to answer

    Hi there @Nave

I hope you are well today, sorry about the delay with my reply.

A lot of this would be handled by various widgets/plugins that include widgets to place within in your sidebar, the search function for certain dates you could use a plugin like this http://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-posts-widget/
Which would give you a nice widget with some filterable options, date etc.

For the photoshop part, what you would need to do is create a custom graphic, then cut that as needed and code the logic for that and place within your themes files and using some custom css, this isn't the easiest thing to do  I've looked around for some tutorials for this, but can't find any unfortunately.

With the subscribe by email, that widget would normally be included in email plugins, such as our e-newsletter plugin or subscribe by email, you could then customize the widget targeting the CSS classes.

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

I will check out the Ultimate Post Plugin. Thank you for that.

Currently I am trying to recreate a footer logo bar something like this site has.

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/

It should be remain grey until I hover over the logo pictures.

I have spent many hours trying to figure out how to best accomplish this but its just not working out.

Is there a tutorial I can follow to create a footer sponsors/logos bar. I inserted the image. Targeted it with a div class. But I need some help with css coding. Whether to use display: inline; or how best to align them horizontally. Should I be creating a css table?

    Thank you Code Monkey!!!
