MarketPress/GridMarket Theme-Show Category Image

I have a question for someone familiar with adding images into MarketPress "product category settings".

I have tried adding images to main categories while filling out the category field details. They are being added okay within the settings but they are not showing on the main category page for some reason!

Can anyone advise on this please,

Thanks

James

    Hi selenamac,

Thanks for your reply, I have already enabled support access for this issue. I was also waiting to hear back from support on another related issue with adding images to each of my product pages, since I am not using pages and posts.

I do have a featured image for each of my products but I would like to add a further image within each product page, along with my content.

In addition, I would like to embed my mb.miniaudioplayer plugin, which I cant get to embed into product pages to play my demo mp3's.

I downloaded the recommended wp-categories-images-zip plugin for this purpose but unsure how to proceed from this point, since I understand that there may be a further php code to insert in editor somewhere, to complete the task!

Anyway, many thanks for your help with this issue,

    James

It looks like the reason you're not seeing category images on category archive pages is because there's nothing in the theme's styling telling it to put an image there. It also looks, per this thread, like category images aren't directly supported by Market Press.

You could hire out a dev to create a category archive template for you, which would then pull the image info from the category image plugin you've installed. Our jobs board might be just the ticket: https://premium.wpmudev.org/wpmu-jobs

Hi selenamac and thanks for your input regarding this issue!

In the "product category" settings there is an image tag for adding images, which it does accept, but when you go to the category in question, the image doesn't appear.

It seems a little odd that they have included category images in the "categories" input field but it doesn't appear when added.

Also, do you know how I can add an image in the product page itself, or is this a similar issue?..I also wish to add an mp3 player to the product page but unable to do so, but since this is also done through the "add media" button I am also getting the same issue.

    Thanks

    Hi,selenamac,

    Further to last comments:

Re: Images and mp3 Plugin in Categories

It appears that there may be a solution to the following issues, as posted in the link at the bottom, which I hope would find a resolve for the following two issues I an having within MarketPress.

    1) adding a category image to main category page of MarketPress/GridMarket.

There is an upload image area within the main category settings to add an image, which it does, but does not show it in the category page after uploading the image!

In addition, I would like to:

    2) add an image and an mp3 lite plugin to each of my product pages, which would be an addition to the featured image itself, in the content area, along with some descriptive text.

This is so that I can show an additional product bundle for that particular product line, on the product page in question, along with a 30 second mp3 demo for that given product.

The only alternative for me here is to go back to scratch and start linking pages with these requirements, which defeats the objective of using the product categories within the theme.

This really doubles my workload if I have to go the pages/posts route and may need to consider an alternative theme altogether, as these requirements are not optional for me.

I note that there has been some discussion from others on this issue and have included a thread to someone who may have actually tackled this issue successfully, but I am unsure how to apply this fix to MarketPress myself!

    Here is link: https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/category-images#post-119436

If this solution does work, are you able to simplify how to add this code to MarketPress?

    Many Thanks

The issue isn't with MarketPress, which will allow you to set an image, it's with your theme, which doesn't have an area defined to display it. A developer can build that area into the template for you. Your theme doesn't have a set area where it knows to put the featured category image, you need to tell it where the image should go.

The thread you linked is over three years old, I would not be comfortable endorsing this member's solution officially, but if you'd like to give it a try, I'd certainly take a backup first.

While WordPress does have the capability to store and play audio files, I've often found that if I want to stream music, using a player that can be embedded from a third-party (like SoundCloud) is much simpler, and more efficient, as your server is not the one having to serve up the large files. Embedding a thirdparty music player would be very simple in your product description fields.

Thanks for the reply, I had no idea how old the link in the post was, but it came up as one of the top threads when I typed in my question and appeared to have been a possible solution for for adding images to categories within MarketPress, according to the discussion within the thread.

Never-the-less, I think it would be a great idea to have this feature built into the theme at some future date, since it is quite popular with web design.

Yes, I understand your comments regarding mp3 player, my file sizes will be minimal and will display only a 30 second demo per page, due to the large file sizes associated with mp3 files.

I am however unable to embed either the mp3 player or images into the product description field. Being unable to apply images into the product category is one issue, but I can't understand why I am unable to apply them within the product description field, since this area should be flexible enough to accommodate this type of content.

I may as well have started building the site using pages but as I mentioned previously, it defeats the purpose of using the products within the theme, to develop an integrated store!

    Thanks

    Hi James,

I have moved this over to the features & feedback section. This way it can be considered for future development, and we can also see what other community members think about the feature request.

I can see you are using the following plugin to set images for product categories.

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/categories-images/

So in the meanwhile to display the image on product category pages set by the above plugin try adding the following code in the mp_category.php file of your gridmarket child theme on line number 8

    Before Adding:
    <h1 class="post-title"><?php _e( 'Our products', 'framemarket' ) ?></h1>

    After Adding:

    <h1 class="post-title"><?php _e( 'Our products', 'framemarket' ) ?></h1>
    <?php if (function_exists('z_taxonomy_image_url')){ ?>
    	<img src="<?php echo z_taxonomy_image_url(NULL, array(300, 250)); ?>" />
    <?php }  ?>

    Best Regards,
